Title | Steel Engine of Annihilation |
Omega is a recurring superboss in the Final Fantasy series. It appears in Dragon Quest Tact as part of a collaboration event with the mobile strategy RPG War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius.
Characteristics[edit]
Omega is a quadrupedal robot with a round body made of silvery-grey steel that has four spider-like legs. It has no idea and its central body is dominated by a front-facing large yellow, pupil-less eye. It also has a periscope-like device with a similar, but smaller yellow eye. Its signature attack is Wave Cannon, which deals heavy non-elemental damage to the entire party. Omega also possesses other powerful attacks such as Mustard Bomb and Atomic Ray. In its recurring appearances, it is hinted that several "Omegas" in the series are the same entity across several games, traveling between worlds via the Interdimensional Rift. In Dissidia Final Fantasy, it is described as a machine capable of utter destruction, having been created by an ancient civilization for an unknown purpose. Its appearance in Tact is based on its War of the Visions incarnation.
Appearances[edit]
Final Fantasy series[edit]
Omega made its first appearance in the 1992 game Final Fantasy V on the Super Famicom. It is one of the two superbosses of the game and can be encountered in the Interdimensional Rift. Omega is visible on the field, so it can be avoided as long as the player only moves when it is not moving. It is one of the few enemies in the game whose level exceeds 99 and it has permanent Reflect and Shell statuses when it is encountered in battle. Omega has become a recurring superboss in the series as an ancient war machine with a long-standing rivalry with the dragon Shinryu.
Dragon Quest Tact[edit]
Omega appears as an S-rank member of the ??? family during the third part of the limited War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius event on its own banner alongside Shiva. It can be faced as a boss in the Beast's Den: Null, as well as the Omega Pursuit.

Etymology[edit]
Omega (capital: Ω, Greek: ωμέγα) is the twenty-fourth and final letter of the Greek alphabet. As the final letter in the Greek alphabet, it is often used to denote the last, the end, or the ultimate limit of a set, as opposed to alpha, the first letter of the Greek alphabet.
