First appearance | Dragon Quest XI |
The Lava lampling is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series. It first appeared in Dragon Quest XI, but was retroactively added to Dragon Quest X starting in Version 5.4. It is a hellish variant of the Lampling with a small pair of horns.
Characteristics[edit]
Lava lamplings are dark red animated oil lanterns with bright green flames in their enclosures. They have a singular yellow eye with solid black sclerae, small smiling green mouths, and a pair of horns like a devil's on top of their heads. When casting spells or performing attacks, the tendril at the top of their heads transforms into a hand. According to the picture book ‘Somewhere Under the Rainbow’ found in Gondolia, a lava lampling came to be when he grew jealous of his lampling brothers and consumed the orange and violet lights, growing horns and being condemned to wander hell forever.[1] Because of this, they fight their siblings more often than their masters' enemies, according to monster info in X. These lamplings use their mighty flames to cast fire magic or perform a dance that sets opponents ablaze in a pillar of flames. They have a partnership with slick slimes, calling upon their aid in the heat of battle to perform a powerful fire technique to incinerate their enemies.
Appearances[edit]
Dragon Quest X[edit]
Lava lamplings began appearing starting in Version 5.4 of the game. They are quite powerful, able to cast both Kafrizz and Kasizz on characters, support their fellow monsters with Oomph, scatter fiery powder, and use Pyre o' Fire, as well.
