Tongue Bashing is an ability which reduces the enemy's Defence. It is considered a stronger version of Tongue Lashing as it is capable of incapacitating a character or enemy for a single turn while also sharply decreasing their Defence.

Appearances[edit]

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake[edit]

In the 2024 remake, Tongue Bashing is learned by Monster Wranglers at level 20 if their wisdom exceeds 48 points. Tongue Bashing costs 7 MP and has an 80% chance to stun a foe before resistance is applied, but it does not lower defence in this game.

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation[edit]

Tongue Bashing is learned by advancing to either rank 4 of the Monster Master vocation or rank 6 of the Gadabout vocation. It will stun a target for one turn and reduce their Defence to 0 for that turn. The rate of success is based on the target's resistance to Sap, rather their stun resistance.

Starting with the Nintendo DS version, the skill's success rate was changed to the target's stun resistance instead of their Sap resistance. This meant that it became possible to use the skill on certain monsters such as metal slimes who are immune to Sap, but not to being stunned.

It is used by the mechalomaniac enemy.

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past[edit]

Tongue Bashing is learned by advancing to either rank 7 as a Jester or rank 4 as a Lips. It can also be used by various monsters such as tongue fu master and pustule. Much like in the previous game, the skill's success rate was based on the target's Sap resistance.

  • In the Nintendo 3DS version, the skill was changed once again to being based on the target's stun resistance instead of Sap. This meant that many bosses became much more resistant or outright immune to the skill due to their higher stun resistance. It can also be used by pucker suckers, pustule, carbuncle, and mirror grimages.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age[edit]

Tongue Bashing is an enemy-only skill that can be used by kissers and Vicious kissers. Instead of reducing a character's Defence to 0, it reduces it by two stages. In this game, resistance to both of the skill's effects are calculated separately, meaning it is possible for the victim to have their Defence reduced even if they are not stunned.

Dragon Quest Monsters[edit]

SickLick will stop the action of one foe and reduces their defence to 1 for a turn for 4 MP. It will be learned naturally by any monster that could learn LushLicks at level 13 as long as they have 81 max HP and 94 AGL, which includes anteater, fairydrak, giantslug, hork, lipsy, poisongon, spooky, spotslime and tonguella.

Dragon Quest Monsters 2[edit]

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince[edit]

Tongue Bashing costs 8 MP and will stun an enemy for one turn while dropping it's defence to 1. It is learned through the Anaesthetist, Enfeebler, Enigma, Fuzzy Thinker, Nuisance, Super Naturalist, Tongue Twister, Toxicologist, Vaudevillain, and Vexologist talents

Dragon Quest Tact[edit]

Tongue Bashing can be learned by Smacker at level 36 and costs 20 MP to use. It has a chance to stun a single enemy and can lower their DEF for three turns.
