The Hero of Dragon Quest Smash/Grow, also referred to as The Vanquisher of Fate is a human member of the Dragon Wings chosen by the Goddess Nornea to gather the world's memories in order to prevent the world's ruin.

Appearance

At the start of the game, the Hero is given the opportunity to customize the Hero. The customization menu allows the player to alter the appearance of the Hero, with the ability to chose between 2 body types, 16 faces, 20 eye colors, 8 skin tones, 16 hair styles, 20 hair colors, and 16 voices. The Hero can be customized at any point onward from the Appearance menu in the Party tab.

In promotional material and by default, the Hero has shoulder-height ash black hair, narrowed turquoise eyes, and fair skin. They wear a set of Blue Dragon Wings Garb. This long surcoat features the Dragon Wings crest on the chest and is accompanied by a black hooded cloak. Their starting vocation is a Warrior, donning an Iron Broadsword.

Appearances

Dragon Quest Smash/Grow

After customizing the Hero, the game begins with the Goddess Nornea speaking to them in a dream-like vision of a forest in the past. In the past, they meet Roly and proceed through a tutorial segment before encountering a rift, transporting them to an unknown castle. After defeating the alpha of the rift and claiming a Memory, the world begins to fall apart. Roly says that the Hero will see him soon, but for Roly it will be "...some time." The Hero is then awoken by Zepha who questions why the Hero was daydreaming. Zepha was helping the Hero through their initiation for the Dragon Wings, an adventurers' group dedicated to helping people. Together, they encounter a powered-off and decrepit Roly, who is sparked back awake by the Memory the Hero acquired in the past. Roly gives the Hero the Adventure Log S and reveals that he has lost most of his memories, including what the Goddess wants the Hero to accomplish aside from filling out the log with memories. The Hero must adventure into the rifts, gather memories, and learn what it is the Goddess wants of them.
