Tyriant is a boss in Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. He is the Spectral Sentinel who holds the Purple Orb, and is the first of the Sentinels to be fought in the game's second act.

He is an armoured purple skeleton who fights with a pair of swords. The Purple Orb, which he keeps in his right eye socket, allows him to summon a shadow double to assist him in battle. He was also able to use the Orb's power to shroud the entire Heliodor Region in shadow; the dark clouds are only dispelled upon his defeat and the Orb's return to the Hero's hands.

Appearances[edit]

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age[edit]

Tyriant appears in the throne room of the ruined Heliodor Castle, emerging from behind the throne after Jasper has finished taunting the Hero and Hendrik.

Because he is fought early in the second act with a computer-controlled Hendrik as the Hero's only companion, Tyriant is a fairly straightforward foe.

Etymology[edit]

Tyriant is derived from Tyrian purple, a purple dye that was highly prized in antiquity, combined with the word "tyrant".
