The '''Sootbonce''', also known as the '''Gloom slugger''', is a recurring monster in the {{DQSeries}}, first appearing in ''[[Dragon Quest V]]''. It is an unusual, alien-like monster that forms a duo with the [[Smogbonnet]].
 
==Characteristics==
Sootbonces are squat bipedal demons whose most notable feature is the pair of stalk-like protrusions growing from their shoulders that have an extra eye each. They have round, darker grey heads that give the monster their name, a tiny pair of blue eyes, and a fang-filled mouth that they use in vicious biting attacks. The sootbonce almost always appears alongside the smogbonnet, which has a similar coloration to them. They have the ability to call for backup from more of their kind or nearby smogbonnets to assist them in battle.
