Dill and Lavender eventually marry and have a son, who Lavender calls Eppe. Burdock dies and sometime before the 30 year gap, Dill loses the mansion and the herb garden to Dan D. Lion. He is reduced to a lowly worker. Cayenne marries Mayor Dan D. Lion and becomes lady of the house. Dill becomes lazy and starts to frequent the bars. After drinking, he starts abusing Lavender. Lavender gets fed up with Dill so she leaves him with their son and becomes a nun. Cayenne, in the meantime, has been poisoning her husband via his food. He is withering to the point where he is bedridden.
Dill and Lavender eventually marry and have a son, who Lavender named Carrington. Burdock eventually passes away, and his manor, fortune and herb garden all pass to Dill. Despite his wealth and status, Dill increasingly succumbs to his jealousy towards Carraway, and frequents the saloon, spending his money and getting drunk. He soon starts to take his jealousy out on Lavender, abusing her to the point that she leaves him and her son and travels east to Wilted Heart where she establishes a nunnery.

Ultimately Dill loses his entire fortune after multiple ill-conceived schemes to increase the profitability of the herb garden. As a result a man named Dan D. Lion buys the manor and garden from him, with Dill being reduced to a worker in the garden. Carrington, fortunately, grows up to be responsible like Lavender, but reproachful of his dad's laziness, and often ends up doing most of his job for him as Dill slacks off.

Meanwhile, Cayenne marries Dan D. Lion and becomes lady of the house. Ever the conniving schemer, however, she has taken to poisoning her husband to the point that he's rendered withered and bedridden.
