The '''Ball of Light''' is an item from ''[[Dragon Warrior]]''.  Originally it is was kept in [[Tantegel]], but the [[Dragonlord]] attacked the castle and stole the Ball of Light.  It is up to the [[Hero (Dragon Warrior)|hero]] to defeat the Dragonlord and recover the Ball of Light.
As ''Dragon Quest'' opens, the [[Dragonlord]], the game's primary antagonist, kidnaps [[Princess Gwaelin]] and steals the Orb, allowing him to unleash monsters and other horror on [[Alefgard]].
