Downloadable content (usually shortened to DLC) refers to additional downloadable features that generally expand the experience a game offers in some way and can be obtained on the various digital storefronts the games are published on, either for free or for a charge. Most DLC in the Dragon Quest series is free, but there are exceptions.

This brief list explains the kind of content available to each game. For further details, check the pages under this category, listed below.

  • Dragon Quest V (Smartphone version): The monster magnet, an item that doubles the chances of monsters joining the party. Originally DLC for the Japanese release, it was eventually permanently added to the game in an update.
  • Dragon Quest VII (3DS Remake): Downloadable stone tablets, which include 3 additional scenarios, new monsters, and new equipment.
  • Dragon Quest VIII (3DS Remake): Additional items and equipment, mostly weapons.
  • Dragon Quest IX: Special guests, DQVC shop, and 64 additional sidequests.
  • Dragon Quest X: Each expansion adds new scenarios, characters, locations, quests, monsters, vocations and more. The later expansions even include voice acting for the main story scenes.

      • Version 2 Expansion (Dragon Quest X: The Sleeping Hero and the Guiding Ally)
      • Version 3 Expansion ("Legend of the Ancient Dragon")
      • Version 4 Expansion ("The 5,000-year Journey to a Faraway Home")
      • Version 5 Expansion ("The Maiden of Thorns and the God of Destruction")
      • Version 6 Expansion ("Heroes of the Heavenly Stars")
      • Untitled Version 7 Expansion, releasing in 2024.
    • Offline Version:
      • Version 2 Expansion (Dragon Quest X: The Sleeping Hero and the Guiding Ally - Offline).
  • Dragon Quest XI:
    • Original PS4/PC Version: Early access to certain items and equipment.
    • Dragon Quest XI S - Definitive Edition: Additional items, equipment and outfits, voice drama DLC scenarios (pay-walled content exclusive to Japan), and access to DQVIII's overworld theme.
  • Dragon Quest Heroes: Additional slime-themed weapons.
  • Dragon Quest Heroes II: Additional monster-themed weapons.
  • Dragon Quest Builders:
    • Console versions: Additional building blocks, items and blueprints.
    • Smartphone version: New tools, equipment and items. The brand new content for this version is all pay-walled content.
  • Dragon Quest Builders 2: Additional blocks, tools, outfits, and items. There are three main sets of DLC for this game, which are pay-walled on PS4 and Switch but included for free on the Xbox and PC releases.
  • Dragon Quest Treasures: A set of three monsters and a few items is available. While it is pay-walled DLC, all it's contents are obtainable for free in the game.
  • Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince: There are three sets of pay-walled DLC for this game. These DLC give Psaro useful rewards to ease his quest, as well as new outfits for him to wear.
  • Infinity Strash: Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai: There are some pay-walled legacy outfits for Popp, Maam and Hyunckel based on classic DQIII vocations.
