Dragon Quest III remakes[edit]

"It is rare indeed for one so powerful to be so kind… You are a veritable paragon of virtue…

Yours is a dominant and forceful personality, but you are able to keep it masterfully in check…

You are also highly compassionate, and capable of putting yourself in almost anybody's shoes…

And you always place more importance on the hopes and fears of others than on your own…

You are deeply passionate, and never allow anything to dampen your spirits…

Thanks to this, everyone you meet finds it easy to trust you…

And you are able to respond to and reward that trust effortlessly…

In short, you are an incredible person…

And if this description does not currently become you, have faith that it soon will…

Let me say it again… You are an incredible person…

And if you do not feel like one yet… You must strive to become one…"

In the Dragon Quest III remakes, paragon is a personality that improves strength growth, but reduces agility, wisdom, and luck growth.

At the start of the game, the hero becomes a paragon by receiving the final test of character in the well. The hero must leave the test after breathing fire on only one or two NPCs. All NPCs, including the required one at the well and the dog, count toward this total.

Other party members have a chance to be a paragon when recruited as a warrior or martial artist, depending on their stat bonuses.

Class / gender Stat bonuses for paragon (chance)
Warrior male
  • Strength bonus highest, 11+ (23)
Warrior female
  • Strength bonus highest, 11+ (12)

An existing character becomes a paragon permanently by reading the The Champion's Code book, or temporarily while wearing the mighty armlet accessory.
