In articles like that, I've tried to incorporate the image into that infobox. Basically ones like <nowiki>[[File:(insert image here)]]</nowiki> or Image:(insert image here), but nothing. Any ideas? [[User:Antiyonder|Antiyonder]] ([[User talk:Antiyonder|talk]]) 14:16, 14 April 2014 (CDT)

--It's the way the template is set up; you can adjust the spaces and change what goes where, but it won't effect how it's presented unfortunately. Whomever designed it wanted to keep the pictures and information separate, so it might be easier to select an alternative template instead. Wish I had more to say on the matter, but its just a design flaw.[[User:Follower_of_Light]] 15:25, 14 April 2014 (CDT)

==Merchant rejoining in all versions?==
Now, when you say that the [[merchant]] in ''[[Dragon Quest III]]'' rejoins in all versions, are you merely talking about all remakes? Cause I do know for sure that he/she remains jailed for the rest of the original [[Nintendo Entertainment System|NES]] version. [[User:Antiyonder|Antiyonder]] ([[User talk:Antiyonder|talk]]) 20:45, 28 May 2014 (CDT)
:...I could have swarm that mustachio'd dolt rejoined in the nes version. My bad. But if you or anyone else finds a goof in one of my edits or thinks something is up, by all means feel free to change it. I know a lot of wikimedia is totalitarian about, well....everything, but this place is way more chill. We're like the Jimmy Buffet of Wikis that way. == Main Page Updates ==

I've added some news about the mobile releases on the main page. I've also unprotected that page, so you and others can make updates if you want to. I haven't done a good job of keeping things up to date recently, so feel free to go for it. If we end up having vandalism problems, we may have to work on an alternative. --[[User:FlyingRagnar|FlyingRagnar]] ([[User talk:FlyingRagnar|talk]]) 01:24, 6 December 2014 (CST)

== Re: Great start ==

Salut! And thanks for welcoming me at the wiki. Thank you for liking the templates as well. Dragon Quest is one of my favorite games and would like to help out with modernizing the wiki. I want to give the entire wiki a great layout and make it feel very original along with its NIWA and SEIWA affiliates. If you would like to help out or have any ideas to share feel free, and if I need help I will tell you. By the way, thanks for stopping that random vandal from last week :). :Hmm... If you are talking about the content in the tabber, then I have an idea for it, but further... I do not know what you actually mean, sorry. For the monster infoboxes, I can probably fix that within one or two days (only if the codes can give me a chance to have what I want). So the monster infobox is not a problem. I will await what you actually mean about showing multiple versions of equipment lists, spells etc. because I see a tabber holding such content. Thanks. So I'm guessing this is what the Royal Scroll is called now? Does the Mobile version of ''[[Dragon Quest IV]]'' use that name now? [[User:Antiyonder|Antiyonder]] ([[User talk:Antiyonder|talk]]) 17:18, 5 October 2015 (CDT)
:Will check IV when I get to that point. Here's the list of name changes for III http://www.woodus.com/den/games/dq3andios/namechanges.php Will fix more when I get an actual chance to edit again, probably just throw up a disambiguation page if it calls for it ([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 10:45, 6 October 2015 (CDT))

== Regarding uploads... ==
Is there a page to provide a general request for uploads (One such example for ''DQ IV'' that you may not have unless you have access to the Japanese Playstation port and can read the language enough to play)? [[User:Antiyonder|Antiyonder]] ([[User talk:Antiyonder|talk]]) 21:36, 14 November 2015 (CST)
:Unfortunately I've got no clue if such a method exists; what I've been doing is using the scanned guide books and ripping the images from those to fill in the gaps and make the items/equipment pages more in-line with VIII's. I know the assorted fan pages and tumblr accounts have some of the japanese-only images, so browsing around there might be your best bet. If you have any in particular you really want I can double check the Brady guides and see if it's in there for you ([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 14:41, 15 November 2015 (CST))
::Well, I could at the very least benefit with the various images for IV's version of [[Immigrant Town (Dragon Quest IV)|Immigrant Town]] and though I won't likely get to it until next year (I'm actually planning to do a playthrough of my brother's copy of ''VIII'' for the PS2 and make edits accordingly) the Fungeon, [[Vault of Vrenor]] (especially the added portion for the [[Lightning staff]]) and the [[Pinnacle Chapel]] in relations to the DS port. If doable, it would be nice to have a more separate image for both [[Mamon]] and [[Mamon Mine]] as it is before & after the monster meeting in [[Diabolic Hall]]. Especially as the before image I have also includes the town, whereas I think it would be redundant if I had the appropriate pic for it. [[User:Antiyonder|Antiyonder]] ([[User talk:Antiyonder|talk]]) 19:30, 15 November 2015 (CST)
:::I don't think immigrant town artwork exists, not unless some was made for 7's remake. For the fungeon and vault, do you mean dungeon maps? If so I can rip the ones Brady made for you. For the Mamon issue we could just merge the pages; I mean they are directly connected after all. ([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 10:48, 16 November 2015 (CST))
::::Actually, I was going to just say that any images from the guide if any would do for Immigrant Town if they had an in-game rendering of the map if no official artwork is present. And yeah, the dungeon maps for Fungeon and Vault were what I was requesting, so cool. As for Mamon, I suggested it to FlyingRagner, but he suggested Mamon's town and mine remain separate. I'm embarrassed. Getting a start on more uploads and assigning them. The link for the Inn didn't work and I eventually found it, but I ended up reuploading versions of them. I think I could use both sets though. I could use yours for the top of the articles and the background versions for gallery.

Infact I'm sending you a list of pics I edited and uploaded, with imput if you think they are suitable as uploaded. Trying to see if I can be more independent on some of this. Especially for say articles like [[Purgatory Island]] from {{VIII}} that lack them and it's even hard to find on say Woodus or Realm of Darkness' site. By the way, he has been making updates again so maybe he could be added to the list of affiliates? Anyway...

Background version of the pics:
:https://dragon-quest.org/wiki/File:DQ_IV_Android_Overworld_Item_Shop.jpg

:https://dragon-quest.org/wiki/File:DQ_IV_Android_Overworld_Inn.jpg

Similar pics but from the Treasures no Trapdoors from {{V}}:
:https://dragon-quest.org/wiki/File:DQ_V_Android_Treasures_n%27_Trapdoors_Item_Shop.jpg

:https://dragon-quest.org/wiki/File:DQ_V_Android_Treasures_n%27_Trapdoors_Inn.jpg

And from {{VIII}} as some articles that could use some (Which I accomplish by viewing them in game from a first person perspective).

First one is the [[World of Light|overworld]]. Tried uploading a basic one from Woodus and well (https://dragon-quest.org/wiki/File:DQ_VIII_PS2_Overworld.webp). So my second attempt and the Purgatory Island pic, plus the [[Dragovian Sanctuary]] map.

If those are deemed acceptable as is I'll try for more in that game and others if possible:
:https://dragon-quest.org/wiki/File:DQ_VIII_Android_Overworld.jpg

:https://dragon-quest.org/wiki/File:DQ_VIII_Android_Purgatory_Island.jpg

:https://dragon-quest.org/wiki/File:DQ_VIII_Android_Dragovian_Sanctuary.jpg

And yeah the Woodus version of VIII's map was .webp as opposed to .jpg or .png. So delete request added.

Last couple of pics from {{III}}. One is the Dragon Queen which I even used the Fade spell for a better glimpse at the sprite. But I think it would work for the gallery as is (I was thinking of an in game pic of the outside, plus for the gallery the spot where you enter {{Cloudsgate Citadel 3}}, which could even be added to the [[Elves and Faeries]] gallery). And the [[Great Pit of Giaga]] one is an interesting case.

Yeah the [[Cell phone]] port and possibly the {{Switch}} version lack the ability to attack your allies (or say damaging Zoma with Heal spells), but an {{NPC}} in Giaga still acknowledges you are able to do so to counter [[Confusion]].

:https://dragon-quest.org/wiki/File:DQ_III_Android_Dragon_Queen.jpg

:https://dragon-quest.org/wiki/File:DQ_III_Android_Giaga_Pit_Dialogue_Error.jpg

Here's hoping I did well with my approach.  [[User:Antiyonder|Antiyonder]] ([[User talk:Antiyonder|talk]]) 00:40, 11 February 2022 (EST)
::You've done great! The overworld inn, item store, the III pics (I need to hurry up and make the Queen's page already), and the VIII pics aside from the webp all look good enough to publish for me--if you ever need to convert a webp to a png or other format, I've found the easiest way is to plug it into [https://ezgif.com/webp-to-png ezgif.com]. The TnT board screenshots look a little pixelated to me, was this the native resolution or did you zoom in a bit? ([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 14:53, 12 February 2022 (EST))
:Just '''what I've been doing with the rest'''. Cutting off the top and bottom to keep focus on the relevant stuff, but as you said, the rest did turn out well. Here are the pics unedited though:
::https://dragon-quest.org/wiki/File:DQ_V_Android_Treasures_n%27_Trapdoors_Item_Merchant.jpg

::https://dragon-quest.org/wiki/File:DQ_V_Android_Treasures_n%27_Trapdoors_Innkeeper.jpg

:Now if you want to edit them, I would request keeping the background in addition to the Merchant. [[User:Antiyonder|Antiyonder]] ([[User talk:Antiyonder|talk]]) 18:49, 14 February 2022 (EST)

Among plans for pictures, I'm going to retake some character shots that I got from Woodus' site. So that means I get to pic [[Charmles|Charmless]]. Yay?

Also going to try for each of the [[Infamous monsters]] that at least are in the [[Cell phone|Android]] port. Taking them from the start of battle so I get a clear shot, but should I keep or edit out the textbook? I might go without, but it's the best indicator of it being a recruitable {{Monster}} as opposed to say a regular encounter. [[User:Antiyonder|Antiyonder]] ([[User talk:Antiyonder|talk]]) 18:49, 14 February 2022 (EST)

:So I upload some pics for my profile and am having a little fun with it (But in all serious as I don't want to reedit every birthday, I just post the year of my birth). Even added a gallery and profile template:

:What do you think? [[User:Antiyonder|Antiyonder]] ([[User talk:Antiyonder|talk]]) 21:21, 18 February 2022 (EST)
::Not bad! A little personalization goes a long way, and I like the team names for VIII's groups; better than the WWE styled garbage I came up with as a kid. As for the text on the infamous monsters, I say it'd be easier to keep it and I agree it's more informative that way.([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 18:23, 21 February 2022 (EST))

Restored [[Estark's Labyrinth]] as is. While most locations are capitalized, the recently retitled [[Tunnel south of Zoomingale]] was not, so I figured I'd go with how [[Storeyteller]] referred to it as. Plus Estark's labyrinth only had a couple of direct links and 13 for the fully capped version. [[User:Antiyonder|Antiyonder]] ([[User talk:Antiyonder|talk]]) 04:35, 17 July 2022 (EDT)

== Just for an opinion on the side. ==
While I figured it relevant enough, my creating of the article for ''[[Captain N: The Game Master]]'' was pretty much an indulgence on my part. That said, how well together would you say it is (i.e. format, grammar)? Character section in particular was made to be similar to ''[[Itadaki Street]]' Character section. I'm an obsessive type, so I don't get burned out (too much), but thanks for the concern. The scans in question come from the original Famicom guides for I-IV and the Super Famicom guide for V. ==About Consolidating==
I think it's a good idea. However, I think that bosses (or mini-bosses) merit their own page still (Abominable Showman, etc.). I believe this consolidation would go a long way in differentiating us from "that other wiki". We each have things to contribute to each other that the Other Wiki doesn't have.

Here's an example of probably the way it should be (redirecting all palette swap monsters to the original monster they are "inspired by"):

'''Powie yowie'''<br>
*Descriptive line.
*appearances in each game.
*sub-headings:
**Sweaty yeti
**sasquash
**see also: abominable showman<br>
etc.<br>
Also, include all official art within their sections (or at the bottom in a gallery ?)

The only problem might be, if someone is cross-referencing a certain monster by categorization (at the bottom of each entry's page), they might still arrive at the page in question, but to find out where and in what game this certain monster appeared, things might get a tad confusing. Maybe not. - [[User:Icysugarspike|icysugarspike]] ([[User talk:Icysugarspike|talk]]) 10:33, 20 July 2016 (CDT)
: Makes sense to me, but if a pallet swap gains significance on its own it deserves its own page. Liquid Metal Slimes are more popular than Bubble Slimes, for example, so it wouldn't work out if they were included in the latter's page. I'll experiment with a She-Slime sub-heading in the Slime page, and if that format looks good I can go from there. Feel free to change a few things around while I'm doing this until a set order is established though, and that goes for anyone reading this paragraph as well. Also, I'd like to try and consolidate shared names as well, like I had done with the Prestidialligator. For monsters that previously shared names, such as the quadrupedal and bipedal dragons, I can toss up a disambiguation page.([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 12:34, 23 July 2016 (CDT))

Yikes, I'm not...the manager. No, no, thank you. I've been down that road before (a couple of times). As you may have noticed, I've been recently uploading a lot of album covers. We need somebody (you did ask a while back if there was any way you could help out, if you could) to create pages for these images. It would be easy to copy and paste (if it had to be done), but there is research that could be done. My strong point is getting the images, at the highest resolution I can find. ==Could we make the Enemy template work somehow horizontal?==
[[User:Icysugarspike|Icysugarspike]] directed me to you. :)

I have a suggestion about the Enemy template. Currently each one forces a line break, and so on pages like [[Slime]], it's not uncommon to get huge columns of them, making pages much longer than they ought to be. Considering most monsters have multiple boxes per game entry I was thinking we could figure out a way to get them aligned horizontally per game (if there is a sub-type of monster like Slimification, they'd be in their own horizontal row.) What do you think? I don't know if it's possible with CSS floats, and I was thinking of using HTML tables (a preview edit worked fine), but I don't wanna complicate anything for other users. Feedback would be great! :) [[User:TheCodingGamer|TheCodingGamer]] ([[User talk:TheCodingGamer|talk]]) 18:39, 12 October 2016 (CDT)
:This is a good idea, but the sad fact is that I'm not the best when it comes to template modification. The best I've been able to do thus far when it comes to displaying differing stats between versions of one game is to use < br > to segregate the numbers and point out where the differences come from in parenthesis. DQ is '''very''' consistent with stats across remakes and ports once the initial change is made, so its always safe to assume that a monster from an SNES remake will have the same stats as in the latest smart phone version.
:I'm sorry I can't be of more direct help, I really am, but I think you're on to something with this idea and I wish you the best of luck in your experiments. Don't worry about any serious changes to the templates being a hassle for the other users either--we just copy/paste what we need then blank it to fill it out with the info we're adding, so the actual process won't change much for anyone. If you need to, pick a lonely page bare of information and use that as a sandbox--the DQM3 exclusive monsters won't ever be filled out properly for a long time, so don't worry about "wrecking" one of those pages. ([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 13:54, 14 October 2016 (CDT))

::Okay, so after a few experiments I think the easiest way to achieve what I had in mind is the add a HTML div and float it. You can see an example here: [[Iron ant#Dragon Quest II]] Unfortunately this requires doing it manually for each instance, but it gives us the most control, and doesn't break anything in the meantime. Look at the Wikitext and tell me if you think it would confuse other editors.

::As for the DQIX Enemy template, could you explain in greater detail what you're trying to achieve? Forgive me, but it's still a bit hazy to me. But if I can, I will try my best to implement it. :) [[User:TheCodingGamer|TheCodingGamer]] ([[User talk:TheCodingGamer|talk]]) 00:08, 16 October 2016 (CDT)

:::I don't think having to do it manually will be a problem for anyone; the change is out in the open and easy enough to see. If it ever becomes a serious problem I just fix it myself. Ye did good lad.

:::Regarding the dq9 box, if you go to [[Corvus]]' page and click on ''Additional Details'' at the bottom of his box, you'll see it lists his elemental weaknesses and ailment resistances in color coded boxes. The problem is it doesn't cover all the ailments in the game, like [[blunt]], and for the life of me I don't know how to add the missing boxes. Do you think there is anyway to rectify this?([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 10:54, 16 October 2016 (CDT))

::::Okay, so I did a preview edit on the DQ9 enemy box, and I was able to add the extra row. If you could just give me a list of the ailments to add, and the colors you'd like associated with them I should be able to do it. :) [[User:TheCodingGamer|TheCodingGamer]] ([[User talk:TheCodingGamer|talk]]) 16:44, 16 October 2016 (CDT)

::::'''UPDATE:''' I decided to add blunt to the infobox so you could tell me if it looked like what you wanted :)

:::::You're a right Rubiss-send mate! The only other status ailments are Sap and Decelerate; I'm not picky about colors so go with whatever you think looks best. Because there are only two more boxes to go, you can try spelling out decelerate fully to see if that helps close the gap. If that looks too gaudy to you, feel free to shorten it to whatever you like!
:::::Seriously, thank you so much for doing this. If you ever need an article made or a fact-checked, come to me and I'll have it done in less than an hour guaranteed! ([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 16:12, 18 October 2016 (CDT))

::::::You're most very welcome, my friend. :) I added the two other attributes to the DQ9 enemy template. I think it all checks out A-OK. Eventually I'd like to go in and make attributes link to their proper articles, where possible, if that's ok with you.

::::::Also, going back to making [[Template:Enemy]] work horizontal, seeing my idea in action on [[Slime]] has proven it's flaws. The wikitext is messy even for me. So I'd like to propose a secondary solution that was inspired by what they do over at the Final Fantasy wiki. Basically I think we could make an enemy infobox specific to each game, and it would:
::::::# work horizontally (yay!)
::::::# Include only two segments: one for the original version, and one for all remakes
::::::# include game specific attributes (like catch rates)
::::::# Break nothing, and make things cleaner.

::::::I spent this afternoon coming up with a design, that you can see [[User:TheCodingGamer/Sandbox|here]]. What do you think? :) [[User:TheCodingGamer|TheCodingGamer]] ([[User talk:TheCodingGamer|talk]]) 18:26, 18 October 2016 (CDT)

:::::::It looks good! Considering that 9 has no remake (yet) and 10 is still up in the air, this ought to work out well. So long as it recruit rates, drop rates, skills, and the bestiary number are added, I cannot for see a problem with this template. It will take a bit, but I'll try and change the monster pages I've been condensing to use it once you've finished. This bestiary project is starting to feel like my own vietnam at this point, ha ha.

:::::::As far as the elements linking back to their own articles, you might want to hold off on that though--Level5 opted not to differentiate between spells and skills when it comes to elemental classification, so there wouldn't be much chance for a player to confuse themselves by thinking, say, that Kafrizz is different from Fire Fource. It's a '''big''' departure from the days of 6, 7, and 8 where THREE types of fire existed, and I'm glad its gone forward into 10 and 11. On top of that, Blast and Lightning use the same elemental marker, so it would be difficult to split them between Bang and Lightning Storm.([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 12:59, 19 October 2016 (CDT))

==Could use your opinion on the PlayStation articles==
As there is no article for the 3rd or 4th PlayStations, plus the articles for [[Sony PlayStation]] & [[Sony PlayStation 2]] are pretty slim, I was wondering if you think it might be a good idea to just merge the two articles and just make it an article for any PS console from here on out. Thanks. [[User:Antiyonder|Antiyonder]] ([[User talk:Antiyonder|talk]]) 14:39, 22 October 2016 (CDT)

== Should we reduce fractions? ==

I'm about halfway done with re-doing all of the templates for DQ1's monsters, and I've noticed that among the evasion and resistances, there's a lot of fractions that could be simplified. Example: an evasion of {{fraction|8|64}} could be written simpler as {{fraction|1|8}}. Should we do so? Or should we leave them at there base denominator for clarity? :)[[User:TheCodingGamer|TheCodingGamer]] ([[User talk:TheCodingGamer|talk]]) 11:11, 24 October 2016 (CDT)
:I think the base rate of 1/64 for evasion and crits is much more commonly understood among fans than it was in years prior, so I don't see a problem with displaying the simpler fractions. I still need to add the remake resistance rates for the remaining monsters, so I'll save you the trouble and handle the change. Really starting to wish we had an internal polling system that wasn't reliant on the dragon's den now that situations like this are popping up more often. ([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 16:34, 24 October 2016 (CDT))

== Should we add a "Did you know?" section to the homepage? ==

Seeing as the homepage has been undergoing some updates recently, I was wondering if you think it would be appropriate if we made a "Did you know?" trivia section. Perhaps 4-5 little facts with links to well written articles to help new visitors explore around a bit. Many wikis offer this, and I thought I'd be nice if we did too. So, what do you say? :)

As a side note, I finished updating the enemy infoboxes for all DQ1 monsters, and I'm currently working on doing it for all DQ2 monsters. If you're working on any specific game(s) or project(s) just let me know, and I could whip up whatever infoboxes or templates you'd like; even if it's just a redesign. [[User:TheCodingGamer|TheCodingGamer]] ([[User talk:TheCodingGamer|talk]]) 15:13, 5 November 2016 (CDT)

:I think that would be a fantastic idea! Registered users could contribute tidbits and obscure facts, and the front page could display up to three of them at once. You'll need the owner's approval, but you've got my vote.

:As for the infobox face-lifts, I imagine that VII would get a priority as it's the hot new sensation at the moment. There are tons of resistance tabs to add for that, but I help if you need to double check which ones are real and others fan speculation. More importantly though, its better to tackle the projects you find the most fun first. That helps prevent burnout and will keep you more motivated. You've done a lot to improve the site already, so don't feel guilty if you decide to give priority to personal goals for a while.([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 16:33, 5 November 2016 (CDT))

::If you need any trivia tidbits, I'd be more than happy to contribute! How would we post them though? Maybe a thread or something similar? [[User:Aphelion|Aphelion]] ([[User talk:Aphelion|talk]]) 17:52, 5 November 2016 (CDT)

:::@[[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] If you'd like I could make a DQ7Enemy infobox designed with the stats found at: http://www7b.biglobe.ne.jp/~dqwiz/dq7re/monster.html Would that work best?

:::And yes I was starting to get a tad burned out on filling in all those those enemy infoboxes. I think I'll slow that down for a bit. If I may, I'd like to give a facelift (aesthetic only) to some of our other templates. Many seem really generic and I think visitors might be more intrigued if we show style and effort. Just my opinion, and I'll always run everything by you guys. :)

:::@[[User:Aphelion|Aphelion]] Glad you're on board! Well I was just thinking we'd have a template like [[User:TheCodingGamer/Sandbox|this]] with a list that any registered user could contribute to (replacing one of the current facts.) I trust all of you to contribute fun trivia. Considering the traffic we currently get it would only need to be updated every 2-3 weeks. :) [[User:TheCodingGamer|TheCodingGamer]] ([[User talk:TheCodingGamer|talk]]) 01:00, 6 November 2016 (CDT)

::::@[[User:TheCodingGamer|TheCodingGamer]] I'm so glad I found that site. Also, ''VI'' and ''VII'' are fundamentally the same when it comes to battle elements, so you'll be hitting two birds at once if you do one or the other. The only real difference on the top of my head would be adding an asterisk to the ''VI'' tame rate that points out it only works in the 16-bit version. I still need to add tame rates for the bulk of ''VII''s bestiary, so I going the extra mile of converting the rest of the data to the new template wouldn't be a problem.
::::If the future template changes look as good as the one for ''I'' and ''II'', go right ahead! The reason I brought up burn out is that I lost a big drive to edit for weeks after touching up ''IX''s weapon page. Large projects can get very Sisyphian before long. As far a style goes, what kind of look would be fundamentally "Dragon Questy"? Should the monster templates reflect the logo of the game the data is coming from, as would equipment and items? Should vocation icons be used, or just a space to type in the text? I suppose I'm looking at this as more of an art project than an encyclopedia at this rate.([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 09:29, 6 November 2016 (CST))

::::@[[User:Aphelion|Aphelion]] Awesome, glad to have another contributor! As Coding said, we should be fine with updating it every two weeks or so, unless we all go berserk and add enough to justify adding a feature that changes the trivia with each page refresh.([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 09:29, 6 November 2016 (CST))

:::::@[[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] Alright, I'll get to work on the template for VII ASAP, and then eventually reuse it for VI. I'll tell you as soon as I finish it so you can review it and ensure it's accurate.

:::::Also I was thinking the exact same things. Logos, icons, etc. should all be integrated as much as possible. I'll add logos to all DQ enemy infoboxes today if I can. Okay, starting with [[Template:Monster Infobox]] I was thinking to update to look like the DQ enemy infoboxes, but with a blue-style scheme. I'm trying to think of any extra parameters we could add. I think a ''Latest Appearance'' might be useful, and height/weight information would be cool, but I don't know if that even exists...any further suggestions?

:::::@[[User:Aphelion|Aphelion]] Okay, so I copied that mockup to [[Template:Did You Know]], so you and [[User:Follower of Light|Follower]] should go ahead and add your facts to the list, and then let me know when you're done so I can get it on the homepage.

::::::Awesome, thanks a million! I remember there being older logos for the individual titles that had unique colors to them, like IV being lavender and III having a slightly greenish-blue tone. Unless there is a way to add specific icons and other customized bits to the tables, color coding might be the way to go.Unfortunately, non-battle data like height and weight are '''never''' consistent in this series--I've got the old bestiary book from 96 and it flat out glosses over details like that. The Latest Appearance parameter would be good as well for quick-refferencing, especially when we don't have monster lists complete for the rest of the 3ds games.([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 16:23, 6 November 2016 (CST))

== Dragon Quest VII Enemy Template ==
Okay, so it took several days, a Japanese dictionary, and more snacks than I'd care to mention, but [[Template:DQ7Enemy]] is now usable. I did my best to make it as accurate as possible, but translating spells was very difficult because not every spell's Japanese name is available on here (a good project to start on soon!) There were a few that I couldn't figure out for the life of me, and if you know what they are feel free to translate them. If you find any errors, I'll take care of them ASAP.

I still need to update [[Template:Monster Infobox]], so I'll get on that soon, and I'm still re-doing DQ2 enemies on the side. Are there any other projects that need help? :) [[User:TheCodingGamer|TheCodingGamer]] ([[User talk:TheCodingGamer|talk]]) 14:49, 11 November 2016 (CST)

:Really wish you would have let me help you with this rather than shouldering the burden all on your own, but thanks regardless for doing this! I have the english names for all the skills/resistances you left in Japanese, but I can't get any of the changes to stick when I preview them. If you can tell me how to make those changes work I'll implement them immediately (already have everything copied, just need to paste) and get to work stamping the template on ''VII's'' monsters. ([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 21:25, 11 November 2016 (CST))

::Are you clicking the "Show preview" button at the bottom? That forces the template preview to refresh so you can see changes. On a side note, I used terms like "Very Low" and "High" to describe the resistances, since that was all I could find on the site I used. If you happen to have exact numbers that'd probably preferred. :) [[User:TheCodingGamer|TheCodingGamer]] ([[User talk:TheCodingGamer|talk]]) 00:22, 12 November 2016 (CST)
:::Updated everything, but ban dance's resistance won't show up on the PSX side. That aside, everything looks awesome and you're doing Numen's work. May need to add another section for skills, unless you've got a plan for how to separate those within the spell bracket.([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 09:59, 12 November 2016 (CST))
::::Okay, ban dance and the army resistances should now show up. I also added a skill section. Well then, assuming everything is fully functional, I'm off to keep updating the DQ2 enemies. Hopefully by mid-2017 most monsters will have I-VI data finished, and sometime around Christmas and New Year we should probably work on cleaning up DQ8 content in anticipation of the 3DS release, but we can worry about that when the time comes. :) [[User:TheCodingGamer|TheCodingGamer]] ([[User talk:TheCodingGamer|talk]]) 14:40, 12 November 2016 (CST)
:::::I'm aiming for early Spring myself, but we'll have to see what other bombs drop first, like ''XI'' or anew monsters game. ''VIII's'' documentation is actually available in english already, so that will help tremendously. For ''VII's'' template, is there a way to post just the PSX or remake versions without the other? Nearly every monster is identical in each version and it would save a lot of editing time to just fill in one, and for the bonus monsters in the remake it would look a little silly shown as a bunch of question marks and "Not Applicable"s. I do feel bad tossing you under the bus all the time with these requests though; let me handle the rest of ''II's'' mons to make up for it! ([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 08:10, 13 November 2016 (CST))
::::::Well, for ''VII's'' template we have the option to simplify [[Template:DQ7Enemy]] to just have the PSX section, and turn the remake section into just a sprite and any notable changes. Monsters exclusive to the remake could receive their own template, say [[Template:DQ7RemakeExclusiveEnemy]] (I admit the name sucks), that would not contain any PSX sections at all. This solution would probably be the easiest to implement. To make things cleaner it'd probably be best to rename parameters to drop their prefixes (e.g. "psx-hp" would just become "hp".) This would screw up the instances where it's already being used, but I'll clean up any I find. :)

::::::And thanks for helping me with ''II's'' monsters! Don't feel obligated to do ''all'' of them. If you fill in the data, I'd be more than happy to gather all the sprites. :D [[User:TheCodingGamer|TheCodingGamer]] ([[User talk:TheCodingGamer|talk]]) 21:32, 13 November 2016 (CST)
:::::::Thanks a ton for everything man, you're making this wiki great. Let me hit the bosses for VII real quick and I'll start finishing up II! ([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 15:56, 19 November 2016 (CST))

== Site Feedback ==

Hey there, just wanted to say thanks for contributing so much to the wiki over the years. I'm sure you are probably aware it has been migrated to a new host. Everything should be up and working great at this point. Please let me know if you find things that are broken or could use attention. We are on a much better host now, so hopefully a lot of past problems are no longer an issue. --[[User:FlyingRagnar|FlyingRagnar]] ([[User talk:FlyingRagnar|talk]]) 00:50, 1 October 2017 (EDT)
:Can do; everything is running smoothly thus far, so I don't think there are many coding bugs left if any at all. I really appreciate you adding a feature that details which templates are active on a page--it makes it so much easier to sort through things and help with presentation. If I can make one request, it would be awesome if there was a guide for using quote box colors more effectively. I think it looks nicer when the text matches the color of the character. Thanks for maintaining the site for all us users over the years, and giving us a place to share our knowledge of this incredible series without having to go through the hell of wikia. == DQ3 Enemy Template ==
Well, it's shameful it took this long, but [[Template:DQ3Enemy]] is now up and running. Please let me know if anything is missing/wrong, and if you need a version for remake exclusive enemies (if any) I'd be more than happy to whip that up too. I'll try to be more active around here when I can, but hopefully this will help us make some progress. Cheers! [[User:TheCodingGamer|TheCodingGamer]] ([[User talk:TheCodingGamer|talk]]) 15:40, 12 October 2017 (EDT)
:Excellent work! You've captured all the parameters, and the presentation is top-notch as usual. Only thing that needs to be added is a section for skills, and it's perfect! Orochi, Baramos, and Zoma have buffed stats in the remakes, but because its only those three I don't think there's a need to have a separate section installed--I'll just post the box again and put remake in parenthesis in the name section. You're doing plenty of vital work as is, so please don't feel pressured to over-exert yourself. Believe me, these templates are exactly what the place needed and we wouldn't have them without you.([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 23:28, 15 October 2017 (EDT))
::Alright, I added the section and conformed the remake section to be like it is in [[Template:DQ7Enemy]]/[[Template:DQ8Enemy]]. Unless you spot any bugs, then it's ready to go into full use.

::Also, I hate to hijack this section so abruptly but I wanted to get your opinion on an idea I've been floating for a bit. As of right now there isn't really any set format for articles about items/equipment. Generally they just have sections with text descriptions and the available information varies vastly (for example some list locations, enemy drops, prices, etc., others don't). Others use templates for different classes of items (generally just [[Template:Equipment]].) I think it would be a good idea to, just like we're doing with the enemies, standardize all of the statistics into one format and make templates for items/equipment for each game so that readers can see all of that important information in one glance, as well as helping editors know exactly what information each game offers/is still needed. I imagined the template offering sections for item/equipment's name, buy/sell price, effect, locations found, enemies dropping it, description, sprite (in the newer entries), and who it is equipable by (if it applies). I might be forgetting something, but regardless, I think you get an good idea. On top of that, any unique properties or general descriptions for any particular game could still be added outside of the template in the proper section as we do for some enemies. I hope this all made sense. Let me know your thoughts on it, and I'd be more than happy to recycle a template to whip up a demo for us to test. Cheers! :) [[User:TheCodingGamer|TheCodingGamer]] ([[User talk:TheCodingGamer|talk]]) 15:22, 17 October 2017 (EDT)

:::Sorry for the late response, life got a little wild for a moment. I think you've got a brilliant idea with the consolidation of item and equipment templates--there are far too many floating about right now and it reflects badly upon the site. I don't mean to sound like I'm throwing the users who created them under the bus or anything; I am grateful they took the initiative and created something to help organize information more effectively, but it seems like there was a lack of an over all cooperation between the users that lead to the inconsistent designs between templates. I think the armor and weapon templates you've created in the period its taken me to respond are an excellent start, and the equipable classes/characters can be typed up underneath the boxes for tidiness' sake. I'd also like to take a moment to express my gratitude for all you've done for the site during your tenure here--coding is fairly well beyond me, and its all thanks to your efforts that the site is gaining a professional look that perfectly informs readers easily and cohesively. If it weren't for yourself and Icy, I'd be at wits end trying to do it all myself.([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 16:18, 21 October 2017 (EDT))
::::Well thank you so much for saying that! I just try to do what I know. And don't think your efforts aren't appreciated either. You're able to get your hands on and interpret game data a lot better than me. What use is a bunch of template if they're just empty? :)

::::Anyways, I went ahead and whipped up [[Template:DQItem]] as a trial. I'll change the color scheme in just a bit, but I think it gives you a good idea of what I had in mind. How's it look? Anything missing that I forgot? Since it will only need tiny tweaks for the rest of the games, producing the rest should be ''much'' easier than it is with the enemy templates. Let me know. [[User:TheCodingGamer|TheCodingGamer]] ([[User talk:TheCodingGamer|talk]]) 17:12, 23 October 2017 (EDT)

:::::Everything is looking good! Smart thinking with the section for use in battle, and I'll start uploading the mobile descriptions once the enemy data for 3 is finished.([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 13:19, 25 October 2017 (EDT))

:::: You make great contributions to the site and really validate having it available, so thank you! A couple other notes I can share...the site host gave us some additional storage space for free, which was nice. We were not super close to running out, but now we should be good for a while assuming there are no giant files that get added. Second, the new version of MediaWiki includes a new skin. I left it available as an option which you can try out if you go to your Preferences. It's called Timeless. We might consider whether we might want to switch or redecorate or something at some point. I know I'm not the greatest at coming up with good ideas for new site designs/images/etc. The default skin is still Vector and is what non-users will see by default. --[[User:FlyingRagnar|FlyingRagnar]] ([[User talk:FlyingRagnar|talk]]) 00:28, 15 March 2019 (EDT)
:::::Thanks, the extra space is always much appreciated. Heck, I wouldn't mind buying a terrabyte drive and making a hard copy to be updated each month if it came to that. Timeless looks pretty good, it's like fandom's layout but smoother and without fifteen ads going on in the background. I'm all thumbs myself when it comes to style implementation, but the Den ought to able to help in that regard. == Dragon Quest XI Equipment ==
Hey there! So I am slowly starting to add equipment info for XI as we are sorely lacking with that game. I don't mind doing it as I'm currently in the process of getting every piece of equipment I can in my own file, but I was wondering if there is a better way to display all that stuff for XI since almost every piece of equipment has quality levels/lots of different stats. I'm using the template that I used for IX's equipment, but modified it a bit to try displaying all that stuff, but I wanted to hear your thoughts if maybe that's the best way I can do it. [[User:Aphelion|Aphelion]] ([[User talk:Aphelion|talk]]) 15:31, 5 September 2019 (EDT)

:Taking a look at how the J-wiki handles things, I plagiarized their table method for XI;
{| class="wikitable"
|-
! Saintess shield !! Default !! +1 !! +2 !! +3
|-
| Defense || 46 || 47 || 49 || 51
|-
| Charm || 19 || 20 || 21 || 22
|-
| Block rate || 11%
|-
| Special<br>effect || 7% defense against all elements
|-
|}
:It's a little crude and trying to add flavor text and recipes would make it stretch out the default block too much, but if we place that information in a paragraph and then use the description header Antiyonder made, it might just work until. If that doesn't look good to you, what about keeping the refinement buffs behind parentheses for IX's template, like this?

{{Equipment|header|name=Witch's robe}}
{{Equipment|stat|name=Defence (forge buffs)|modifier=+43 (+45,+47,+50)}}
{{Equipment|stat|name=Magical Might (forge buffs)|modifier=+18 (+19,+20,+22)}}
{{Equipment|stat|name=Recipe|modifier=[[Narspicious]] x2 + [[Wing of bat]] x2 + [[Belle cap]] x2}}
{{Equipment|stat|name=Rarity|modifier=★★☆☆☆}}
{{Equipment|footer|buyPrice=N/a|sellPrice=2,300|equipableBy=[[Veronica (Dragon Quest XI)|Veronica]]|class=Robe
|flavor=Garments worn by ancient enchantresses that can help stop the wearer's spells being sealed away.
|notes=Chance of being prevented from casting spells reduced by 40%.
}}
:That looks better to me because it keeps the template height reasonable without sacrificing clarity or readability. How's it look to you?([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 11:55, 6 September 2019 (EDT))
::Yeah, I agree. No reason not to keep using the same template for IX. It's good for displaying a lot of information plus the flavor text and I got used to using it already. Thanks for your input! [[User:Aphelion|Aphelion]] ([[User talk:Aphelion|talk]]) 15:30, 6 September 2019 (EDT)
:::Any time, and thanks for helping out so much with XI's equipment and VII's bestiary. == Imput on uploading via cellphone. ==
:1. If I take screenshots on my cellphone and wanted to upload them while acknowledging that the contents belong to Square Enix (Like shots of the Float o Copiers from ''IV'' when they turn into your party member(s)), would that be fine as far as the wiki policy is concerned?

:2 For that matter have there been any good quality pics that came from someone's cellphone? [[User:Antiyonder|Antiyonder]] ([[User talk:Antiyonder|talk]]) 19:22, 15 December 2019 (EST)

::1. Yes, that copyright acknowledgement will keep the site in the clear legaly speaking. The Den hosts several cell phone screenshots and it's never been hit with a DCMA to my knowledge.

::2. I don't believe so, but it is possible to get crystal clear screen shots via phones. It'd be a fine feather in your cap to start thing off and become the trendsetter([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 18:45, 16 December 2019 (EST))

== Something I could use your help on currently, templatewise... ==
Now something you may or may not notice when I do minor edits is basically trying maintain consistency and lessen redirects as often as possible (i.e. 3DS to [[Nintendo 3DS]]), but as far as titles for ''Dragon Quest'' games past the first ones go the template to say {{ }}, the item/equipment descriptions, monster bestiary profile and '''etc''' go, they all were made before the articles for each game past the first were officially title.

No hurry of course, just whenever/whatever you can. Maybe even showing me as an example of how to make say templates leading directly to ''[[Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line]]'' rather than ''Dragon Quest II'' [[User:Antiyonder|Antiyonder]] ([[User talk:Antiyonder|talk]]) 20:57, 23 January 2020 (EST)
:Changing the {{}} templates to include the subtitles wouldn't be too hard, it's just a matter of opening a page that uses them, selecting to edit the template and then adding the text. The problem is that not every page link uses those templates, with some being the full game title typed out instead of the short hand { DQ3 }. It would be a big undertaking to go through every page and get the subtitles added in, and since the game pages themselves highlight to subtitles I don't think it would be a good use of time. Lessening redirects as been a big help with organizing the piping between the pages, and I'm very grateful to have someone who can pitch in for tasks like that. This is a fan operation and as such I don't have any authority or tendency to tell people what to do with their time, but I do think that combing through every page to add those subtitles would be a big task with little pay off. ([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 13:09, 25 January 2020 (EST))
::Well if time is the issue, I can still give it a shot. Anything I can do to help out. At any rate, [https://dragon-quest.org/w/index.php?title=User:Molacarthy Molacarthy] helped me figure out how edit the templates for abbreviate the titles. At any rate, know how to do the same for description template like the one for the [[argon heart]] in ''VIII''? [[User:Antiyonder|Antiyonder]] ([[User talk:Antiyonder|talk]]) 18:33, 25 January 2020 (EST)

:::You're doing a ton to help out and you're worth your weight in gold, so no worries there. For the item template, what can I help you with? ([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 20:30, 25 January 2020 (EST))

::::Thanks. As to the what, is there a way to make sure that the icon (I'm guessing) leads directly to the main article for VIII with leaving a redirect? [[User:Antiyonder|Antiyonder]] ([[User talk:Antiyonder|talk]]) 20:39, 25 January 2020 (EST)

:::::Looking at the icons, they all lead to the page they're supposed to. Which ones are giving you problems? ([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 21:47, 25 January 2020 (EST))

::::::The Dragon Quest VIII logo in the section, Descriptions. It leads to the DQ VIII article, but it's through Redirect. [[User:Antiyonder|Antiyonder]] ([[User talk:Antiyonder|talk]]) 22:16, 25 January 2020 (EST)

:::::::That should do it--if it doesn't take effect site-wide in a few hours then I'll hit the purge button and force the update through. If you ever need to edit a template's finer details, all you need to do is open the page editor, scroll to the bottom to find that template and then hit the edit link in parenthesis. You'll have to sift through the guts of that template's page and you won't be able to see the effects on the preview tab, but it will work. ([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 01:46, 26 January 2020 (EST))

::::::::I'll try to keep that in mind and thank you. The Argon heart on What Links Here shows no evidence of redirect. I found that page earlier, but yeah I had no clue where to begin until I saw your edit change. I will be going through a little at a time this week. First I'll be finishing on the PlayStation 2 to Sony PlayStation. Also, it seems there were no ''DQ'' titles for the GameCube, but since all of the GBC/GBA titles can be played on it through the Game Boy Player accessory, do you think a GC article would be appropriate? [[User:Antiyonder|Antiyonder]] ([[User talk:Antiyonder|talk]]) 02:25, 26 January 2020 (EST)

:::::::::Am I missing something here (https://dragon-quest.org/wiki/Template:DQMJII)? I looked at the templates on other articles like say [[Frou-fry‎]] while on my Android phone and it's the only one where the View, Edit and Discussion options aren't viewable, while I'm currently looking at the aforementioned article right now on my laptop with nothing amiss. I'm the one who made the template to begin with, so did I leave anything out? [[User:Antiyonder|Antiyonder]] ([[User talk:Antiyonder|talk]]) 21:57, 4 February 2020 (EST)

::::::::::It might be the browser your phone is using, it's looking alright on my end. How old was the template when you were first looking at it? Sometimes it takes a second for everything to kick in like it's supposed to. Speaking of phones though, could I trouble you with a few screenshot requests? Mainly the sovereigns in III so that I can justify a gallery when I write up all the pages. I don't have any specific lines of dialogue in mind either, so even just standing next to them will done. Of course there's no rush if you decide to take this up either. ([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 17:09, 6 February 2020 (EST))

:::::::::::It's been around for a while. I did move it from DQMJ2 to DQMJII (Monday or Tuesday) to make it more consistent with the template scheme of the classic series and to make DQMJ2 a shortcut for typing the full title. Did the same for a bunch of others, but experienced no trouble with the them. [[User:Antiyonder|Antiyonder]] ([[User talk:Antiyonder|talk]]) 21:54, 6 February 2020 (EST)

== Sovereigns? ==
Yeah I'm focusing on other games at the moment, but I plan to do a full replay of ''III'' nonetheless. But refresh my memory on what the Sovereigns are again? [[User:Antiyonder|Antiyonder]] ([[User talk:Antiyonder|talk]]) 21:54, 6 February 2020 (EST)
:The royalty; king of Edina, queen of Isis, dragon queen, faerie queen, etc. By all means take your time, you've been on fire lately and I'm not going to mess with that tempo ([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 15:59, 7 February 2020 (EST))
::Would you probably be making a similar page for other games in time? Cause I can at least do the same for ''I-II'', ''IV-VI'' and ''VIII'' in time. Heck, besides ''VIII'' having good graphics despite the cell phone limitations, I could probably take some pics of human Trode. Also speaking of frequent edits, can heavier amounts of editing slow down other aspects of the wiki? I removed the redirects from the [[Knick-knackatory]] to [[Knick-knacks]], yet despite finishing that edit at 1:04 AM this page (https://dragon-quest.org/w/index.php?title=Special:WhatLinksHere/Knick-knacks&limit=500) still suggests that I haven't cleared them. Usually these things seemed to clear up in half of 24 hours, but as of posting this it's 11:51 PM. [[User:Antiyonder|Antiyonder]] ([[User talk:Antiyonder|talk]]) 02:51, 9 February 2020 (EST)
:::It can take a while for the changes to stick now and again, but if it's ever giving you trouble you can use the Purge option to force the new edit to take effect faster. When you make your edit, go to the history page and highlight the webpage on your search bar and hit right until you see "&action=history". replace the word history with purge and then hit enter, you'll be taken to a new page where you can purge the history and force the new edit to take precedent. Looking at the knick-knackatory page, the new redirects take me to the section but not the specific item, but that's fine since any reader can take it up from there.
:::I do plan on getting all the NPCs in each game their own pages, even if it would be brief, and leave the list of characters as a directory so if you want me to work on people from a particular title I can jump into that first. ([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 09:24, 9 February 2020 (EST))

== Another thing of modifications I could use help on... ==
Namely removing redirects to [[Tombola ticket]] and [[Boomerang (weapon)]]. For the most part no problem, but to give some example of what I'm looking for:
*[[Leftwyne]]- Yeah help with modifying the template specifying that [[Tombola]] can be played at some locations in the {{DQ2}} and {{DQ5}}. Those tend to lead to Lottery.
*[[Roundbeck]]- Modified weapon shop templates means I can't easily add Boomerang (weapon).

No hurry, just check them out when you can. [[User:Antiyonder|Antiyonder]] ([[User talk:Antiyonder|talk]]) 23:34, 7 February 2020 (EST)

:The boomerang icon gave me some trouble, and when I uploaded one for the modified link it failed to appear unless you clicked on it directly. It'll just have to be soemthing the wiki lives with, but that shouldn't be a problem since readers can make the logistical leap from the disambiguation page immediately. As for those location attribute icon templates, I've always found those to be as distasteful as the icons for door types and about as useful--I can just as easily slip the information into the descriptive paragraphs and have it flow much more naturally thank a bunch of clunky boxes shoved in at the very end of an article. I can't seem to get that particular edit to stick either, so I'll just be working my way through the pages and removing them as I update the monster names, install the weapon templates, and so forth. ([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 08:05, 8 February 2020 (EST))

:Maybe not. Whoever did the [[Lakanaba]] page found a way around the Boomerang thing I think.[[User:Antiyonder|Antiyonder]] ([[User talk:Antiyonder|talk]]) 15:14, 8 February 2020 (EST)
::Nice, everything's turned out well in the end then([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 17:36, 8 February 2020 (EST))

== Capital question. ==
Not going to link to them from here, but when doing a minor grinding session on ''V'', I noticed that Yggdrasil Leaf and Flametang Boomerang weren't capitalized completely, rather the game presents them as Yggdrasil leaf and Flametang boomerang. Oversight on the wiki or do some games capitalize Leaf and Boomerang? [[User:Antiyonder|Antiyonder]] ([[User talk:Antiyonder|talk]]) 16:20, 5 March 2020 (EST)
:Looking at V, it almost seems random which words are capitalized and which are not--the herb in medicinal herb isn't, but the regale in pallium regale is even though it is not a propper noun. I wouldn't worry about it too much. ([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 17:04, 5 March 2020 (EST))

:It's no for me to work on. Especially not all the redirects on them have been fixed. [[User:Antiyonder|Antiyonder]] ([[User talk:Antiyonder|talk]]) 18:18, 5 March 2020 (EST)

== Discord-Server ==

Hello Follower of Light,

I am Hydrotoxinlaser - maybe you remember me - and I am the administrator of the two German Dragon Quest Wikis powerded by Miraheze and FANDOM.

I have created a Discord-Server to improve the communication between the authors of our Wikis. Actually I have created it for the German Wikis only, but I thought about it and want to ask if your Wiki or the (active) members of your Wiki want to join our Discord-Server.

Of course you can think about it. If you want to join, I will send you the invitation link.

Greetings --'''[[User:Königsschleim|Königsschleim]]''' ([[User talk:Königsschleim|talk]]) 13:48, 29 March 2020 (EDT)
:It sounds like a good idea to me, please send an invite whenever is convenient. ([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 19:19, 30 March 2020 (EDT))
::Great! Here is the invitation link: https://discord.gg/J7ytZ8d

== Presentation Standards ==
Hey there, I've had no interaction with a user by the name of limp bizkit. Feel free to revert anything in the standards you don't agree with. You have my support. Any changes should likely be discussed in a talk page before changing them anyway.
--[[User:FlyingRagnar|FlyingRagnar]] ([[User talk:FlyingRagnar|talk]]) 22:13, 4 May 2020 (EDT)
:I was just trying to make wiki look better? [[User:Limp Bizkit|Limp Bizkit]] ([[User talk:Limp Bizkit|talk]]) 23:11, 4 May 2020 (EDT)

::...and that is not a bad thing, but making changes to things like templates when you are relatively new to a wiki are often viewed as stepping over the line. For template changes or major category updates, use talk pages to submit ideas first. For templates, create an updated template using user sub-pages and ask for feedback about whether it is an improvement over the current template in use. A lot of your edits were clean up related, and those are very welcome, as there is a lot of stuff to clean up. --[[User:FlyingRagnar|FlyingRagnar]] ([[User talk:FlyingRagnar|talk]]) 23:36, 4 May 2020 (EDT)
:::Gotcha, thank you. Sorry for going so edit crazy as if it were attempted takeover of wiki. [[User:Limp Bizkit|Limp Bizkit]] ([[User talk:Limp Bizkit|talk]]) 23:41, 4 May 2020 (EDT)

== Admin ==
After some discussions on Discord, I've promoted you to admin on the wiki. I'm not sure if you really want that or not, heh, but there is no question that you have made a ton of great updates to the wiki over the years. You are without a doubt a major contributor to how things are done around here, and deserve to be viewed as being an authority on content. This new role adds a few new capabilities, but none that I can think of that are all that useful. I do not have any expectation that you have to do anything more than whatever you currently want to do. I also wanted to make it clear to the Discord crowd that you are welcome to represent the wiki in any promotion/collaboration discussions and/or private servers. Any topics or discussions that you would prefer to avoid, or anything related to the backend administration of the site, feel free to continue to send my way. --[[User:FlyingRagnar|FlyingRagnar]] ([[User talk:FlyingRagnar|talk]]) 23:30, 4 May 2020 (EDT)

== Trying some new cellphone shots. ==
Been playing {{DQStars}} and while I didn't think to take pics early on, I started doing so when I got to areas containing story elements of the early games. Namely the profile pics of characters who have seldom artwork of them like say the King of [[Aliahan]]. Sent two photos to test out which types you think we could work with. The zoomed in version with the name still present or the unaltered photo:
:https://dragon-quest.org/wiki/File:DQ_Stars_Android_King_of_Aliahan.jpg

Let me know what you think.[[User:Antiyonder|Antiyonder]] ([[User talk:Antiyonder|talk]]) 00:34, 29 July 2020 (EDT)

:Both of these look great! I think going with the full screen capture would work better, because then I can extract the dialogue box along with the character art for a more focused picture--that is, taking the second image you've uploaded and adding a transparent background to everything around the dialogue box and the character art extending beyond the screen boarder. That may take some time on my part, but I know I can clear out all the unneeded info like the boss detail in the upper background and then upload the modification as a new version of the file. Please be extra careful to make sure none of your phone's personal data is accidentally captured in these screen shots though, even small details can slip in easily. ([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 21:00, 29 July 2020 (EDT))

:::[https://www.howtogeek.com/203592/what-is-exif-data-and-how-to-remove-it/ Here is a good example of what I mean], and the article covers ways to remove data in existing photos and prevent it from happening with new ones. == About the edit you've removed ==

I added this based on Dragon Quest II's enemy table (see [[Slime]] as an example) where Fire Resistance includes [[Woosh]]. Is it that Fire Resistance does not working due to a bug or glitch, or did I worded it wrong? (--[[Special:Contributions/2406:3003:2005:3FAB:64FE:B7C7:C812:8FF8|2406:3003:2005:3FAB:64FE:B7C7:C812:8FF8]] 07:04, 16 August 2020 (EDT))
:No you've got the right idea in that all attack spells are lumped under "fire" in the game's programming, its just that the way resistance works in the first four games is based on the chance of a monster dodging a spell altogether instead of taking less damage; woosh will always deal 17~33 damage if it hits. I know its a dumb idea and in all honesty squenix should have tweaked the formula to follow later games, but for whatever reason it was decided to stick with the original system. My {{DQStars}} code is ABNJYJ3578 if you play it or still do if you want to friend up. Going to put it on my profile shortly.

Also going to upload more pics soon to clear space in my folder, especially since I'm caught up on the story content until the next update. But for easy access to my first set of pics needed for updating so they aren't buried:

:Sorry, life got in the way for a bit there and I've not been able to edit as quickly as I should. I appreciate the offer for the friend code on ''Stars'' but my phone is a toaster; the reason I'm so grateful that you've been uploading these images is because I don't have the means, and as far as I can tell you're the only one in the West who has been doing so. I'll hack through these tonight and get them on the proper pages.([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 19:42, 2 October 2020 (EDT))

== So Final Fantasy... ==
First off, still no hurry on the alterations to my pics, but do you want me to continue sending the rest or wait until you modified the rest?

Also, I've been wondering since ''DQ'' became represented in ''Smash Ultimate'', you think ''Super Mario'' and ''Final Fantasy'' would merit articles on the wiki? You know since they both crossed over with DQ in ''[[Itadaki Street (series)]]'' games?

Not to mention it was announced on {{Stars}} that they would be doing a crossover event with ''Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia''. Plus ''DQ'' enemies I believe appeared in ''Mobius Final Fantasy''. Mind you I could do some work on the ''Mario'' page, ''FF'' isn't something I'm as knowledgeable on or ''Itadaki Street'', so others could probably help in those regards. [[User:Antiyonder|Antiyonder]] ([[User talk:Antiyonder|talk]]) 02:07, 12 October 2020 (EDT)
:I think having Mario and FF pages would be a rational idea as the series have appeared together beyond smash brothers. I can handle the data for Dissidia as well as Mobius and I can figure out more for Itadaki street. Sorry about the delay in getting the edited pictures up, life threw me for a loop last week but I've got half of the last set done already and I'm cutting into the remainder. I grab every image you upload in a cluster so that they don't get lost, so don't worry about overwhelming me or anything like that--this moves at whatever pace you're comfy with. ([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 19:22, 12 October 2020 (EDT))
::No problem. Just wanted to be sure as again clearing up the phone. Have over 300 pics saved and still have some I plan to take later on. Also more an indulgent idea, but how about Pokémon? Besides the heavy usage in ''Smash'', there's the talk about it's mechanics being inspired by ''DQ'' (Like the [[Mad cap]] being the reason trading exists) and in turn I believe it being say the reason that in turn {{DQMSeries}} exists. [[User:Antiyonder|Antiyonder]] ([[User talk:Antiyonder|talk]]) 19:59, 12 October 2020 (EDT)

::::Pokemon is a bit of s stretch at first glance, but if its done in such a way that it shows how both series influenced one another then I think it can work well. DQM is a direct response to Red and Green's popularity, so that connection is inarguable. Should be done with this set of images by tomorrow evening.([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 21:26, 15 October 2020 (EDT))

::::::::So while I don't have it in me to do a summary of the {{Stars}} at the time, do you think having enough pics for a gallery (like for Cyril and Gaius) would justify starting an article? [[User:Antiyonder|Antiyonder]] ([[User talk:Antiyonder|talk]]) 23:08, 19 October 2020 (EDT)
:::::::::Just checking more time, you sure it's no trouble if I get a heavy amount a pics loaded? [[User:Antiyonder|Antiyonder]] ([[User talk:Antiyonder|talk]]) 14:40, 22 October 2020 (EDT)
::::::::::Its no trouble at all, having them uploaded here en masse means I can't miss any of them. As for Cyril and Gaius, I don't see how being in a mobile phone game invalidates their status as DQ characters. The fact that all the important NPCs have their own illustrations makes it easier to see who deserves a page as well, so I'd say most of them will end up with their own before long. If you know of any longplay videos or the like, I can watch those and write the summaries from there.([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 20:47, 22 October 2020 (EDT))

Adding the files to articles and new files later in the month. Anyway, not sure how much milage it would get, but I was thinking of making an article "List of references to Dragon Quest", especially since on the Western Side it's not the most acknowledged. But one thing that brought it on was my marathoning of the cartoon ''Adventure Time'' (through Hulu and a the Complete DVD collection). An episode titled the diary started out to my surprise of a game with a battle scene exactly like {{Dragon Quest}}, plus some official animatics from the final seasons have some ''DQ'' music playing. == Artwork for DQIX equipment ==

Hey, I recently started scanning a DQIX guidebook for equipment artwork. I'm doing my best with image quality. I'm currently uploading them to the French wiki, and y'all are welcome to check the gallery of new files and use them if you want.--[[User:Tigali|Tigali]] ([[User talk:Tigali|talk]]) 09:02, 6 March 2021 (EST)
:Thanks a million! I know scanning so many pages can be a pain, but trust me--your work is going to be appreciate and look a hundred times better than that ancient scan of the guidebook that was just a series of cell phone pictures.([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 20:43, 8 March 2021 (EST))
::Thanks! To be honest, it's been going rather well, maybe better than I expected. I know my scanner did a shit job at rendering the color black when I scanned my DQXI artbook, which is very frustrating, but it seems to work fine here. The cell phone pictures of IX equipment you currently have are from the Bradygames guidebook, actually, that I own too and used to scan as well with eh results, and are way smaller—I use the second Japanese guidebook, the one with the night sky on the cover, I believe some of yours come from there as well ([https://magazine.jp.square-enix.com/gamebooks/dq/index.html here's] a very handy list of all the DQ books in Japan). I don't plan on redoing the artwork scans of items that looked identical in VIII (I've actually been using your smoothened scans all this time, those do look better than what I can do) but some have slight differences, notably markings, between those two games: I'll be covering them. I'm scanning two pages at a time, but actually, cutting out the artwork into a transparent png is the most time-consuming thing because of the unfortunate shadow effect they used that's messing with my software, so I'm uploading one at a time (and often, the page has yet to be created, so I'm making its basic structure at the same time). And, weirdly enough, the alchemiracle equipment doesn't appear to have its own artwork? It's in neither guides at least. It may appear somewhere in XI-related stuff, but XI changed all the colors apart from the first evolution stage so there's that. Anyway, the gallery of new files is [https://wikidragonquest.fr/Spécial:Nouveaux_fichiers here] if you want a handy link. Happy hunting ^^ --[[User:Tigali|Tigali]] ([[User talk:Tigali|talk]]) 22:12, 10 March 2021 (EST)
:::These look incredible! Thank you so much for tackling this project, all of these have great resolution for such small source images. ::::Digital versionof the Japanese artbook? Yeah, I could've sworn I saw that 'round the internet, but never could get my hands on it. I own the physical version because I'm a collector, but a digital one would be way way better. I could help you with the uncut files too, if you'd like. As for my priorities, well...they'd be entirely preference-based, not based in any sort of logic, except perhaps...the images with a lot of black in them? Like Don Rodrigo's butler, which turned friggin awful despite my best attempts at correcting color balance and contrast. In other news, I'm still adding stuff from the collector's edition artbook from time to time (some of it being there already), and idk if you heard of komodoxeno's google drive with in-game images that he cracked from the game files? ::::::Ah, don't worry, do it at your own pace! And I still can help with the cut out if it buys you time. I only will use the concept art in the page at this stage (I redid the cutout too, and same for Alizarin) but when we'll get to creating image gallery pages the render will come in handy too. If you'll permit me being insufferable, the images I look most forward too are Derk, Opal, Healijah (in the section at the end w/ battle artwork), Dora-in-Grey, the doge (puppy Sandy), the Doge (of Gondolia) and [whatever Erik's MMA partner's name is in English]. But honestly, I'm in no rush, the IX equipment will keep me busy for a WHILE lol. [https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1LRMDyOs3iGsFH6bdRA-fQ3j7z57LMCkA Here's the drive]! It has a ton of stuff. ==Robbin' 'Ood and Dirkandor (And for possible theories mistaken as canon)===
While doing recent editing I found in [[List of locations in Dragon Quest II]] a claim that [[Dirkandor]] was founded by Robbin' 'Ood from {{III}}. Or as the article suggested, Kandar. Fellow GameFAQs poster behindtheword seems doubtful and my own searching, best I could find is assumption that the bolded segment of Dir'''kandor''' is close to RH's old localization name as an indicator. :Looking at the Japanese wiki, this notion came from the novelization of II and is not supported anywhere else. ::The DQ1-3 novels were recently translated in Spanish and I got them. I just took a look, and in page 176 it's mentioned that Robbin did indeed found the town, in the novelization at least. The novel calls the Dirkandor castle the manor of the 'Ood family. Maybe adding the link between RH and the city as trivia in the Dirkandor article will be enough, mentioning it's only in the novel.--[[User:LiquidMetal|LiquidMetal]] ([[User talk:LiquidMetal|talk]]) 17:26, 31 January 2022 (EST)

== The word "etymology" ==

Hello.

I saw you reverted my edits. I am very sorry for that.

Shall we discuss here: https://www.woodus.com/forums/topic/41660-the-word-etymology/

The Wikipedia page about Etymology is very technical, indeed ([https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Etymology external link]). This Youtube video ([https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSAW4FSA8Dg&t=103s external link]) explains what etymology is in just 20 seconds (starting from 1:43).

Thank you and best regards, --[[User:Abacos|Abacos]] ([[User talk:Abacos|talk]]) 19:01, 14 August 2023 (EDT)
:The use of the word Etymology as the section header for the origins of terms, names, and so forth has been standard practice since the adoption of the wiki format at large.([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 23:55, 15 August 2023 (EDT))

Your answer is very kind, but if it is true, I have to admit that I am really baffled.

This is a big case of "Artistic Licence: Linguistics". Tvtropes.org explains it in a nice way ([https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ArtisticLicenseLinguistics link]) :
: ''most people recognize that when dealing with questions of physics, biology, chemistry, etc., they need to ask an expert, whereas with linguistics, many people don't even realize that there are experts to be asked.''

Someone, years ago, had his/her own personal definition of "etymology", and no one cared whether it was correct or not. Is that so?

Indeed, if you remove all the "buzzwords" from the actual definition of etymology, you are left with ''"Etymology studies the origin of [...] words"'', but that is not etymology anymore (not to mention that the difference between "word" and "name" is quite subtle). ---[[User:Abacos|Abacos]] ([[User talk:Abacos|talk]]) 09:43, 16 August 2023 (EDT)

:If I may be of assistance, my degree actually includes lingustics! College-level linguistics and grammar is focused on moving away from prescriptivism and more towards descriptivism, i.e. observing a text corpus or a group of speakers and making observations on them to determine what words mean, not trying to enforce what they should mean. So a linguist would definitely not frown upon the use of the word etymology in the way that it is used here, if that's what you were getting at.
:From my perspective, "etymology" as we use it is perfectly acceptable (i.e. the concept that the writer of the word seeks to communicate to the recipient and what the recipient understands is the same) and, if I can use my own recollection as a corpus, very common for wikis and even beyond. Sorry, had to simplify a lot, besides my degree is in another language. Anyway, I see no cause to change it. Words evolve with time and cultural context, and this is not that big of a departure?
:Actually, I kind of struggle to see how you conceptualise our use on one hand and the various definitions you sent on the other, differently. Sure, etymology can explain the changes that lead to the spelling and pronunciation of a word, but it's a byproduct of how words are formed in natural languages; if it was the actual focus, you'd be thinking more of phonology and graphology. Etymology is just the study of the "true origin" of a word, so of course in natural languages it comes from gradual spelling and speaking changes and that's what's studied, but in conlangs and neologism, we'd be looking at the root words that have been portmanteau'd or otherwise been used to make a new term. Not sure if I'm making myself clear.--[[User:Tigali|Tigali]] ([[User talk:Tigali|talk]]) 17:56, 16 August 2023 (EDT)

I am using a table because I am going to use several indentations.

By the way, I am afraid that the following statement shows an underlying difference in the approach to the problem at hand:

: >>> ''Words evolve with time and cultural context''

The above is a "Common Law" statement (if definition and common usage disagree, definition shall be updated). I come from a "Civil Law" country (written rules and definitions, not common usage, determine whether something is correct or wrong).

: >>> ''I kind of struggle to see how you conceptualise '''''our use''''' on one hand and the various '''''definitions you sent''''' on the other''

Easy: your use does not match the definitions at all. Evidence: the contents of your etymology sections are completely different from the etymology sections provided (where applicable) by any "non-fandom" website. Such a big departure is, to me, an obvious problem. If someday the '''definition''' of "etymology" will be modified, then your '''use''' might become correct; right now, the two do not match.

: >>> ''in conlangs and neologism, we'd be looking at the root words that have been portmanteau'd or otherwise been used to make a new term.''

'''I agree on this point, with some caveat.''' Indeed, I checked about 100 etymology sections on Dragon-Quest.org, and left about 20 as they were, because they are neologisms or puns. On the other hand, translations, definitions, and descriptions are different from etymologies.

: >>> ''So a linguist would definitely not frown upon the use of the word etymology in the way that it is used here,''

I disagree. One year ago, I raised this same point on another Wiki. In order to provide evidence, I sent a message to several linguists from Wikipedia Linguistics Portal. All the answers were like: "There is not an ounce of etymology there" <small>(because I was the only one who provided any evidence, that wiki stonewalled me... AND they also sent me a policies link stating that stonewalling is forbidden on their own wiki)</small>. ---[[User:Abacos|Abacos]] ([[User talk:Abacos|talk]]) 09:46, 24 August 2023 (EDT)

:Since you didn't think it necessary to adress some of my points about prescriptivism, I'll put it this way: you're the only one who has had a problem with the way we use the term I've ever encountered in my decade long wiki career, and it's not even that you don't understand it, you just prefer to use "Name origin" (which... I have news for you about what the word etymology is made up of). The reasons your concerns aren't heeded here nor anywhere else is 1-It doesn't cause any good faith confusion 2- vernacular use is not an invalid thing in a non-academic context and the fact that you thought to bother actual professionnals for a fansite about Dragon Quest is secondhand-embarrasing 3- it's a very small nitpick that demands a lot of corrective work 4- you went about it by complaining about us on an external website and keep insisting and obfuscating, which doesn't really make anyone here open to listening, sorry. It has nothing to do with Civil vs Common law, I'm confused where you even got that from and if you think it's an apt simile, you fundamentally don't undertand how language works, which is where we circle back to prescriptivism.

:This has been an interesting conversation. Even though I'm still confused about how we are supposed to explain how terms from different languages are formed without translation, definitiuons and descriptions.--[[User:Tigali|Tigali]] ([[User talk:Tigali|talk]]) 10:25, 24 August 2023 (EDT)

This is very important, therefore I am going to leave the rest aside for a while. You wrote: '''''you went about it by complaining about us on an external website and keep insisting and obfuscating'''''

I am sorry, I have no idea what you are talking about. Dragon-Quest.org redirected me to Woodus.com . Was it the wrong thing to do? Also, I am not obfuscating anything. Quite the opposite: on [https://www.woodus.com/forums/topic/41660-the-word-etymology/ Woodus.com] one guy was getting out of subject and I asked to stay on topic. Are we talking about the same thing? --[[User:Abacos|Abacos]] ([[User talk:Abacos|talk]]) 17:39, 2 September 2023 (EDT)

:Dragon Quest.org did not, in fact, redirect you to Woodus, it's an external website we happen to have a partnership with. So yes, it is what I'm talking about. Also, in the topic you helpfully linked, you were talking about straight up commiting automated vandalism because we wouldn't agree, sooooooo... Even if I don't believe you have the technical capabilities to do so, I don't believe I should continue entertaining your points for that reason. It was very enlightening to see that under the pseudo-intellectual prescriptivist prose is a person who would throw such tantrums when they don't get their way.

:TL;DR Apart from if Follower of Light has got something to say about it, you lost your shot at convincing anyone here, like the previous wiki that "stonewalled" you. Who knows, maybe third time's the charm? Good day.--[[User:Tigali|Tigali]] ([[User talk:Tigali|talk]]) 10:28, 3 September 2023 (EDT)

:Placing the related monsters links at the bottom of the page does make sense, but since the galleries have been growing I've noticed that the tab tends to get lost under all the images. == Dragon Quest 8 High Quality PNGs and WebMs ==

Hey Follower of Light, long time no see! Recently I've gotten back into Dragon Quest 8 and put a lot of time into creating a high quality PNG and WebM of a slime as a sort of proof of concept:

[[File:Slimedq8png2.png|200px]]

[[File:Slime.webm]]

The PNG was created with PSX2 with 12x internal resolution in widescreen format (it's 610 × 615), and the WebM was made with PSX2 with 6x internal resolution in widescreen format. I've always wanted DQ8 sprites and animations in high resolution, and I was thinking of doing this for every monster and every animation in the bestiary. I wouldn't know where to put them though, so I'd thought I'd get your opinion on whether these could have a place on the wiki and they could replace the current DQ8 sprites, or an alternative would be better. [[User:Molacarthy|Molacarthy]] ([[User talk:Molacarthy|talk]]) 09:59, 20 April 2025 (EDT)
:Excellent work, I like what I'm seeing! Here's a mock up using your 3DS template, at 200px
[[File:Template test image.png]]
:Including the higher resolution pngs images would simple, but for the WebM files do you think you might be able to convert those into a gif format? Those will automatically play when set into the template's sprite section ([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 18:51, 20 April 2025 (EDT))
::Yeah sure, here's a gif:

::[[File:GifmakerSlime.gif]]

::It's not as high quality since gifs only have 256 colors, but I think it looks good. I'm thinking of including the WebMs in an archive and uploading them to a file hosting site like Catbox or MEGA. [[User:Molacarthy|Molacarthy]] ([[User talk:Molacarthy|talk]]) 22:14, 20 April 2025 (EDT)
:::That's a smooth frame rate, I think it looks fantastic. Feel free to post the png files in the galleries as well, there's plenty of space for those. Let me know when you plan on mass-uploading the gif files via the upload wizard and I'll adjust the template for the new sizes; the exact px number will probably need to be on a case by case basis. ([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 08:01, 21 April 2025 (EDT))
::::How big should the gif files be? They can get up to 1500 x 1500 with 8 MB file sizes with no compression. [[User:Molacarthy|Molacarthy]] ([[User talk:Molacarthy|talk]]) 10:25, 26 April 2025 (EDT)
:::::I think that will need some experimentation to decide; could you upload a small(ish), medium, and large slime to get a feel for how they'd look when inserted into the template? What pixel sizes are the models displayed in the native resolution?([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 16:40, 26 April 2025 (EDT))
::::::I ran into some difficulties with outputting smaller gifs with the method I'm using, sorry would it be okay if we specified how big the gifs should be for their respective page? Like this:

::::::[[File:GifmakerSlime.gif|400px]]

::::::Full Resolution.

::::::[[File:GifmakerSlime.gif|200px]]

::::::Half.

::::::[[File:GifmakerSlime.gif|70px]]

::::::Around native resolution, all of these with the same file. It'll be some work but editing all of the DQ8 monster pages shouldn't take long. I was mainly worried about the file size because of the gif thumbnails not playing, but it's actually based on width, height and number of frames. $wgMaxAnimatedGifArea is what it's called, and the gifs will be 30 fps so they should all be under the threshold. Also sorry it's been taking a bit but I should be able to make and upload all of the gifs here soon, I've been figuring out how to automate the process and make them look good. [[User:Molacarthy|Molacarthy]] ([[User talk:Molacarthy|talk]]) 09:34, 27 April 2025 (EDT)
:::::::No worries, I know how daunting huge projects like file ripping can be and there's no rush anyways. Looking at these slimes and the mad mole you posted on your page I think the largest size is best; VIII is a beloved game so I doubt anyone would complain about seeing the gifs in greater detail and I've already cheesed things plenty of times with the spells and skills gifs. When you do begin to upload en mass, would you mind taking a moment to select the "Category:Dragon Quest VIII images" tag on the upload wizard page? I've been trying to fill those out per game so it's easier for people to find image resources for their own projects, and you'll only have to do it once per upload chunk.([[User:Follower of Light|Follower of Light]] ([[User talk:Follower of Light|talk]]) 11:12, 28 April 2025 (EDT))
::::::::Sure thing! I might upload a few more gifs individually just to test out how they look on the site, I'll manually add the tag on those. [[User:Molacarthy|Molacarthy]] ([[User talk:Molacarthy|talk]]) 16:08, 28 April 2025 (EDT)
