| The '''Soulsucker''' is a recurring shield in the {{DQSeries}}, first introduced in ''[[Dragon Quest IX]]'' as the most powerful shield in the game. Like its initial form, the [[Brain drainer]], it can create a barrier when used as a tool in battle and offers amazing defence and elemental protection to the wielder.

| ==Etymology==
| |
| The Soulsucker's Japanese name, Ouroboros shield, refers to an ancient symbol of a serpent eating its own tail which traditionally originated in ancient Egyptian iconography. The ouroboros was eventually adopted as a symbol in Greek mysticism and alchemy. It is often interpreted as an eternal symbol of life, death, and rebirth. The shield depicts a golden snake eating its own tail in an infinity symbol (∞).
