| The katana that appears in the 3DS port of Dragon Quest VIII has a different Japanese name than the two-handed sword that appears in X and XI, explaining the differences in its design between games. The katana's Japanese name is ''退魔の太刀'', which was localized first as Demonsbane due to the effect mirroring the [[Dragonsbane]] and [[Zombiesbane]]. For the localization of the eleventh game that weapon was dubbed the [[Banishing blade]], and ''デーモンバスター'' became the demonsbane in English.
