The Jowler is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, debuting in Dragon Quest V.
It is a green, ape-like oddity with a blue mane running down its back.
Characteristics
Jowlers are great lumbering Beasts with wrinkled green skin and enormous jaws that walk about on their knuckles like gorillas. They have shaggy blue manes and short horns on their heads and backs. The brutes attack by punching foes with their enormous fists or delivering powerful kicks with their hind legs. As the Jowlers have no ability in magic to speak of, they will call for aid from other monsters to keep them healed in battle.
Appearances

Etymology
The jowl usually means the jaw or cheek of the subject in question. This same area on the jowler is rather prominent, especially in the remakes where animations accentuate those parts of the monster.
