Khalamari is a large squid monster with a red body and a blue-purple top, first seen in Dragon Quest VIII. It normally uses its tentacles as puppets in front of ships. It has a younger version called Khalamari kid. Its name is a reference to the seafood dish, calamari (squid).

Khalamari is the poisonous boss of the Unshore region, and can be scouted post-game. It has the powerful attack Tidal Wave, which can severely weaken or even knock out party members that are not immune to water. Khalamari speaks in a cockney accent, much like Yangus. The way to its lair inside a cave is blocked by several tentickles, each of which must be defeated before the Scout can continue to approach and ultimately enter its lair.
