The flowing dress, also known as Water flying clothes and Water robe, is a powerful type of cloth armor, commonly used by spell casters in the Dragon Quest series. Despite its name, it can be equipped by both male and female characters in most cases.
Appearances
Dragon Quest II
The water robe has a defense bonus of +65. It protects against fire attacks by 50% and damage caused by swamps and magma tiles. It can be worn by all three characters. The robe is obtained by giving the Holy Loom and Dew Yarn to Don Mohame in Tuhn.
Dragon Quest III
The water robe has a defense bonus of +50 (+40 in the NES Version and can be worn by Mages and Sages in the (GBC Version) and later versions. It reduces spell and breath damage by 1/3rd in all versions, and can be purchased for 12,500 gold coins and sold for 9,375.
Dragon Quest IV
The flowing dress has a defense bonus of +43, and reduces frizz, sizz, bang, and breath damage by 1/3rd. It can be worn by Borya, Maya & Meena. Orifiela has this among her equipment. The Flowing dress can be bought for 14,800 gold in the Secret Shop. It has a defense bonus of +65 and Apr bonus of +42, and will reduce frizz, sizz, bang, and fire breath damage by 30.

The flowing dress can be bought for 16,000 gold and sold for 8,400 gold. It has a defense bonus of + 65 and an appearance bonus of +42. Maribel, Gabo, and Melvin can equip it. It features the same element protection as in VI.
Dragon Quest VIII
The flowing dress has a defense bonus of +59, and reduces frizz, sizz, bang, and fire breath damage by 1/3rd. It can only be worn by Jessica. It can be bought for 14,800 gold at Tryan Gully and sold for 7,400 gold.
Dragon Quest IX
Flowing dresses can be bought in Wormwood Creek or Upover for 18,000 gold and also sold for 9,000 gold. It has a defense bonus of +25, Magical Might and Magical Mending bonuses of + 18 each, 25% fire and ice reduction, and a rarity of 2 stars. Dropped by cumulus hex in grottos rarely. Priests, Mages, Minstrels, Paladins, Armamentalists, Rangers, Sages, and Luminaries can equip it. Its in game description is "A consecrated costume that curbs fire- and ice-based damage." Flowing dresses can also be made using the Alchemy recipe of: Enchanted robes x1 + Celestial skein x3.
