Dhama Shrine (also known as Dhama Temple, or just Dhama) first appeared in Dragon Warrior III as a place to change character classes. It has reappeared in two other games Dragon Quest VI and Dragon Warrior VII. Each different incarnation of Dhama works a little differently. All Dhamas are set up like small towns, with the later versions having places to check your current class level and shops.

Dragon Warrior III's Dhama
In Dragon Warrior III, Dhama is a place your party members (with the exception of the hero) can change their classes. However with this class change comes a price, you're character will revert back to level one and you will have to buy them the proper equipment for a new class. This is also the first time that a class requires something other then reaching a certain level in order to change classes, The Book of Satior, is required to become a Sage in Dragon Warrior III.

Dragon Quest VI's Dhama
In Dragon Quest VI, Dhama has been destroyed. However in the dream world you can access it and change you classes. This system differs from Dragon Warrior III where as you don't lose your levels when you change classes, instead your class has it's own level. This new system allows for more time adventuring and less time leveling up so you don't die. This Dhama also gives you the opportunity to train in the class of Hero. The class system is much more advanced starting you with eight main classes and then allowing you to access advanced classes and eventually master classes. There are also two hidden monster classes that require books for your party members to learn, Metal Babble, and Dragon.

Dragon Warrior VII's Dhama
This Dhama is not destroyed, but sealed away and being controlled by monsters. Once you clean out the infestation you open up one of the deepest class systems yet. Dragon Warrior VII keeps the idea that VI started but adds a whole set of monster classes, that you can learn by obtaining a monster heart through a random battle. The monster classes are also broken down into basic, advanced and master classes.
