Norvik is a town in the overworld of Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation.

It is located north of Khoryv, and is approximate to Scandinavia in the real world. Appropriately, the village has trouble with the Fair Folk.

AppearancesEdit

Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of SalvationEdit

Several years before the beginning of the game, a young man from Norvik had fallen in love with the daughter of the Queen of Faeries, Aniseed. Though the maiden reciprocated his affection, their love was scorned by the faerie law and the two fled together. The Queen loathed humans, and assumed that the young man kidnapped her daughter--in her fury, she placed a curse upon the village that sent the townsfolk into a permanent slumber save for the man's father and an elderly man whom were both outside of the village at the time. It is unknown exactly how long the village slept, but a woman in the church of Romaria frets that she has not received any letters from her relatives in Norvik for many years.

The lad's father going to their village pleads with the Queen to lift the curse, as the villagers knew nothing of the affair and that his son would never kidnap a faerie, while the old man remains behind and explains the situation to the Hero. The curse is lifted by returning the dreamstone from the Underground Lake to the Queen. The Hero also passes along the final words Aniseed left behind, explaining that the couple chose to end their lives together in the underground lake rather than be separated. The Queen is distraught that she unwittingly brought her daughter to suicide, and gives the party the wakey dust to end her curse.

Once revived, life in the village returns to normal--though none of the townsfolk get tired, not even at night. The father of the young man cannot bear to tell his wife what has happened to their boy, while the rest of the villagers wonder at what has become of their home in the years since they fell asleep.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D RemakeEdit

Norvik is now overrun with weeds and tall grass, and until the curse is lifted the overworld icon is shrouded in mist. When the curse is lifted there remains a masked thug slumbering behind the inn, but this is in fact a disguised rockbomb who happened to stroll in to the village. He requires Ra's mirror to be exposed, and the faerie curse does not need to be lifted before recruiting him.

One of the villagers will mention that a traveller from Aliahan briefly rested at the village and departed just one day before the Queen's curse was laid.
