Aliahan is a kingdom and a castle town found in Enix's Dragon Warrior III.  Located on a small continent in the southern ocean, it is said that Aliahan once ruled over the whole world, but the travel door to the other lands was sealed off until the hero Erdrick broke the seal with a magic ball.  Aliahan was home to the great hero Ortega, as well as the famous Erdrick of Alefgard. Aliahan is the starting location of Dragon Quest III.

Aliahan is a kingdom found in DQ3.

Geography
Located on a small continent in the southeastern ocean, Aliahan is the land from which the Hero 3 ventures forth into the wider world to save it from the fiend Baramos. Its kingdom includes the castle town of the same name near the southern bay, and the smaller town of Reeve in the northwest.
Although most locations in the world of Dragon Quest III mimic real world locations, the continent of Aliahan does not.  This seems to support the supposition that the Hero hails from a distant and mysterious place rather than one based on a real world location. It could also be intended to be a reference to Atlantis, a lost continent mentioned by Plato.

Castle Town of Aliahan
Interestingly, the continent serves as an excellent tutorial for new players to the series as it features a castle, two towns, two distinct dungeons, a tower, and enemies that provide different types of threats.

Hero's House
Appearances
The hero's house is located in Aliahan.  This is where the player begins the game.
DQ1HD
Aliahan is alluded to by the inscription found on the inside of Erdrick's helm:

start
The Scions of Erdrick find the inscription in their ancestor's helmet and wonder what Aliahan could be. Much later after completing the game's true ending, accessible after receiving Erdrick's Supreme Sword and Supreme Shield from the Dragonlord's great-grandson, Ramia takes the four Scions through a portal in the sky to Aliahan, the same portal their ancestor descended into Alefgard from eighteen generations prior. The four are confused by their whereabouts, with the Princess of Cannock assuming they are in the afterlife while the Princess of Moonbrooke notes that the kingdom feels very familiar to her.

The hero can stay for free at his/her house until the defeat of Baramos.
The group learns that the world above has been at peace for generations thanks to the efforts of two incredible heroes, and monsters have all but disappeared. Patty's Party Planning Place lies empty said for the blue-haired owner who humorously muses that peace is bad for business. She explains that the tavern was passed from daughter to daughter until it came to her, Patty the Eighteenth, and she plans on turning it into an extravagant inn that would become famous across the world. The well where Morgan Minimann set up shop has been boarded up, with an old man saying he heard tale of the eccentric rich man just up and vanishing one day.

Upon entering the castle and speaking to the King, the 23rd of his line, the aged monarch assumes the group to be yet another bunch of travellers wanting to hear the legend of Aliahan's saviour. The Scions explain that they found the name of his kingdom inscribed on their ancestor's helm; upon inspecting it, the King recognizes it as the very same helm that Ortega's friends bequeathed him on the day of his departure so many centuries ago. He recognizes the four as none other than the descendants of Ortega and his son, and celebrates their arrival as the return of bloodline that saved the world.

Weapon Shops
The four children marvel at the odyssey their family has experienced, and the King suggests they visit the home of their ancestor. The guard stationed in front of the home has received orders to stand down from his post, and he welcomes the group. Inside, the Prince of Midenhall sees a familiar-looking woman and speaks with her―the scene then cuts to a flashback of Erdrick speaking to his own mother, and she embraces him in a tight hug while welcoming him home. The screen whites out to the logo of the game, which then changes into the logo of Dragon Quest III HD, bringing the saga of Erdrick to a close.

Miscellaneous Services
All items purchased in Aliahan are saved to the player's inventory and retained when the file is loaded.

Lucia's Place
DQ3
Lucia's placce is a tavern located in Aliahan. It is a unique location that consists of both a hall of registration, where new party members can be created and named, and a draft counter where party members can be added or removed. This is where the player receives new companions throughout the game.  However, as added party members are controlled completely by the player, these characters do not take part in the storyline in any way.

It is said that Aliahan once ruled over the whole world several centuries ago, but a war broke out and the country's territory was reduced to the island continent seen in the game after many of its young men died in conflict. The teleportal to the mainland that is located in the Path of Promise was sealed after this war. In modern times Aliahan has abandoned its militaristic past and exists in an idyllic peace, as evidenced from the available weapons and armour being quite simple as well as the native monsters being push-overs. Aliahan has also repaired its relations with the major kingdoms of the world, and the King of Aliahan has informed his fellow sovereigns that the child of Ortega has volunteered to accomplish the late hero's mission. How this is accomplished is not detailed in earlier versions of the game, as the teleportal remains sealed in the modern day and Aliahan has no port. Some citizens have taken it upon themselves to break the seal and see the wider world, but no attempts have proven successful; the player must break the seal with the wrecking ball to reach Romaria and begin the adventure in earnest.

Lucia's place is also the location where a party member can be found after being a victim of a Limbo spell.
The game begins with the Hero 3 turning 16 years old, and the player is taken to the castle by the Hero's Mother to speak with the King of Aliahan. The King explains that the Hero 3's father Ortega set off to slay a wicked evil known as the Archfiend Baramos not long after the Hero was born, but was witnessed to be dragged into the mouth of an active volcano and is presumed dead. The King states he fully supports the youth's determination to complete Ortega's mission, confirming that the decision to undertake the dangerous journey was entirely the Hero 3's own, and strongly advises the player to assemble a group of allies at Patty's Party Planning Place to avoid Ortega's fate while providing funds along with basic equipment. With the preamble explained, the player then traverses the island kingdom to find a means to reach the mainland, undergoing an unobtrusive tutorial that details the nature of exploration, monster combat, the importance of keys, and teleportals.

Medal King
As the birthplace of Ortega, Aliahan has garnered a reputation as the home of heroes. The legacy of the incredible man has spread to nearly every corner of the world, and with it the reputation of Aliahan.
In the remakes of Dragon Quest III, the medal king lives in the bottom of the well in Aliahan.  He accepts mini medals in exchange for various item prizes.

Vault
The Hero's home
In Dragon Warrior III for NES, the party could store items here for a small fee upon retrieval. Gold could also be stored in 1,000 piece increments.
The Party 3 can stay for free at the Hero 3's home at the behest of their mother. This room and board lasts until the death of Baramos.

In the Gameboy Color version, the vault became only a gold bank, since the item storage was no longer necessary with the addition of the bag.
Patty's Party Planning Place
Patty will give the player the ability to customize their party as they see fit at her bar in the northwestern section of the town. Pre-designed characters are ready for recruitment on the first floor, and further options can be requested on the second floor. Additionally, the bar is the location that any victim of the Blasto spell is spirited away to.

Kingdom of Aliahan
Vault
The Kingdom of Aliahan is composed of the castle town of Aliahan and the village of Reeve.
In the NES version, the party had limited item slots due to hardware restraints and could store additional items here for a small fee upon retrieval. Gold could also be stored in 1,000 piece increments.

Remake changes
An a new opening cinematic has been added, expanding upon the one created for the American NES release in 1991. It shows Ortega departing to slay Baramos shortly after the birth of his child, detailing his journey to Skyfell Tower, Alltrades Abbey 3, Orochi's Lair (where he fights an unrelated monster), Mur, & sailing to Rimland,  before being dragged into the volcano by an unidentified monster. It concludes years later with the King of Aliahan holding a meeting with the Hero's Mother and the toddling Hero 3 after he dispatched an expedition to locate Ortega at his last known whereabouts on Mt. Necrogond. The leader of the team reports they have found no signs of the man, and the King solemnly concludes that he lost his life before consoling the Hero's Mother. The bereaved widow admits she had a terrible feeling her husband wouldn't return, but is certain he fought his best until the bitter end. The King gives into despair as all seems hopeless against Baramos now, but the Hero's Mother asserts that she will raise her little one to succeed Ortega.

The 16-bit remake of III and its subsequent ports included quality-of-life additions to the kingdom, such as increasing the amount of incidental items to be found and turning the vault into gold bank, since the item storage was no longer necessary with the addition of the bag. The newly created personality system is also alluded to through new dialogue with residents, and the Hero 3's personality will even change to contrarian or mule if the player refuses to speak to the King and returns home during the opening segment.

There is now a shack at the bottom of the castle town's well where the medal king Morgan Minimann lives. He serves the same purpose as his contemporaries in other titles do, and his system uses the accumulation method of issuing rewards rather than using the medals as a currency to purchase items with. There are five mini medals scattered through Aliahan, Reeve, the Dreamer's Tower, & the Little Shrine, allowing players to get an early reward before leaving for the mainland. Should the Hero 3 defeat Baramos alone, the King will reward the player with a powerful bastard sword―this is presumed to be a relic from Aliahan's world-conquering past.

Beyond these utilities and system pointers, the largest change to Aliahan is that the NPC dialogue will now change significantly when the player obtains the magic key, is awarded the ship from Portogus Rex, slays Baramos, and obtains the sunstone. If a certain miracle takes place in the post-game, the kingdom's dialogue will change even further.

Aliahan has been slightly redesigned, with the player being able to enter from the east, west, and southern gates. A nun has been placed near the western entrance for convenient saving, as the royalty of the world have passed that duty on to the clergy as in all post-Dragon Quest IV games, and the sister also serves as the Zoom point. The placement of some buildings have been adjusted to look more natural in HD, and Patty's Party Planning Place has been given a revamped exterior with a curved glass awning for outdoor dining. Patty herself will explain the nature of her business at one point, revealing that the King of Aliahan felt immense guilt over the loss of Ortega and commissioned Patty to establish a meeting place for adventurers so that Ortega's child would find powerful allies and avoid the same fate. This confirms that the party members recruited at Patty's place come from beyond Aliahan's shores via ship, and that the island kingdom was not as isolationist as some players had assumed.

The HD-2D version retains the features added in the 16-bit remake and the only change to the utilities are a Slime held in the castle dungeon, informing players that special monsters can be encountered outside of battle. NPC dialogue is retained from the 16-bit version, though the Hero's Mother has been given additional lines. Several of these are voice-acted and take place when the player speaks to her after obtaining Ortega's helmet, upon defeating Baramos, and in the post-game after a certain event. The Hero's Mother will also appear during the newly created ending cinematic.

Observant players will notice two homages to Dragon Quest XI: there is a world map of Erdrea hung in the northwest corner of the castle's first floor and the Hero's mother keeps a red and a green book similar to the ones found in the ending of the eleventh game.

DQ11
The Hero 11 can visit Aliahan through the Echo Chamber. He is taken to a time just before the marriage of Ortega and his fiance, and sees that several villagers have gathered in the woman's house to prevent the union. As it turns out, this is the work of a monster that was trying to prevent a legendary hero from being born and the party makes quick work of the nuisance. Additionally, the Luminary can get a Personality-altering book from Ortega's father, which can be used to alter Jessica Albert's mind at Chateau Felix.

DQTact
Majellan and Mindini find themselves in Aliahan at the end of Chapter 1, Episode 1 of the game's Dragon Quest III event. The duo encounter Patty, who is shocked to encounter friendly MFamiliess, but she warms up to them quickly and invites them to her pub. Afterwards, she encourages them to speak to the townspeople to find a way for them to return to Orchesterra.

Trivia
Although most regions in the world of Dragon Quest III mimic real world locations, the continent of Aliahan does not. Its position in the ocean would approximate Australia, but this is already occupied by Lanson, and the shape of Aliahan's landmass does not resemble the continent as well as the former. Due to Aliahan's history as a world-encompassing empire that has since fallen, a closer comparison would be the lost continent of Mu, which is said to have be a colossal landmass in the south Pacific ocean.

Aliahan is a kingdom found in Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation.

Located on a small continent in the southeastern ocean, Aliahan is the land from which the Hero ventures forth into the wider world to save it from the fiend Baramos. Its kingdom includes the castle town of the same name near the southern bay, and the smaller town of Reeve in the northwest.

Interestingly, the continent serves as an excellent tutorial for new players to the series as it features a castle, two towns, two distinct dungeons, a tower, and enemies that provide different types of threats.

AppearancesEdit

Dragon Quest I HD-2D RemakeEdit

Aliahan is alluded to by the inscription found on the inside of Erdrick's helm:

"May victory smile upon you, Great Hero of Aliahan"

All items purchased in Aliahan are saved to the player's inventory and retained when the file is loaded.

Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of SalvationEdit

The game begins with the Hero turning 16 years old, and the player is taken to the castle by the Hero's Mother to speak with the King of Aliahan. The King explains that the Hero's father Ortega set off to slay a wicked evil known as the Archfiend Baramos not long after the Hero was born, but was witnessed to be dragged into the mouth of an active volcano and is presumed dead. The King states he fully supports the youth's determination to complete Ortega's mission, confirming that the decision to undertake the dangerous journey was entirely the Hero's own, and strongly advises the player to assemble a group of allies at Patty's Party Planning Place to avoid Ortega's fate while providing funds along with basic equipment. With the preamble explained, the player then traverses the island kingdom to find a means to reach the mainland, undergoing an unobtrusive tutorial that details the nature of exploration, monster combat, the importance of keys, and teleportals.

As the birthplace of Ortega, Aliahan has garnered a reputation as the home of heroes. The legacy of the incredible man has spread to nearly every corner of the world, and with it the reputation of Aliahan.

The Hero's homeEdit

The party can stay for free at the Hero's home at the behest of their mother. This room and board lasts until the death of Baramos.

Patty's Party Planning PlaceEdit

Patty will give the player the ability to customize their party as they see fit at her bar in the northwestern section of the town. Pre-designed characters are ready for recruitment on the first floor, and further options can be requested on the second floor. Additionally, the bar is the location that any victim of the Blasto spell is spirited away to.

VaultEdit

In the NES version, the party had limited item slots due to hardware restraints and could store additional items here for a small fee upon retrieval. Gold could also be stored in 1,000 piece increments.

Remake changesEdit

An a new opening cinematic has been added, expanding upon the one created for the American NES release in 1991. It shows Ortega departing to slay Baramos shortly after the birth of his child, detailing his journey to Skyfell Tower, Alltrades Abbey, Orochi's Lair (where he fights an unrelated monster), Mur, & sailing to Rimland, before being dragged into the volcano by an unidentified monster. It concludes years later with the King of Aliahan holding a meeting with the Hero's Mother and the toddling Hero after he dispatched an expedition to locate Ortega at his last known whereabouts on Mt.

The newly created personality system is also alluded to through new dialogue with residents, and the Hero's personality will even change to contrarian or mule if the player refuses to speak to the King and returns home during the opening segment.

Should the Hero defeat Baramos alone, the King will reward the player with a powerful bastard sword―this is presumed to be a relic from Aliahan's world-conquering past.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D RemakeEdit

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive AgeEdit

The Hero can visit Aliahan through the Echo Chamber.

Dragon Quest TactEdit

Majellan and Mindini find themselves in Aliahan at the end of Chapter 1, Episode 1 of the game's Dragon Quest III event. The duo encounter Patty, who is shocked to encounter friendly monsters, but she warms up to them quickly and invites them to her pub. Afterwards, she encourages them to speak to the townspeople to find a way for them to return to Orchesterra.

TriviaEdit

Although most regions in the world of Dragon Quest III mimic real world locations, the continent of Aliahan does not. Its position in the ocean would approximate Australia, but this is already occupied by Lanson, and the shape of Aliahan's landmass does not resemble the continent as well as the former. Due to Aliahan's history as a world-encompassing empire that has since fallen, a closer comparison would be the lost continent of Mu, which is said to have be a colossal landmass in the south Pacific ocean.
