The Tectonic Plate is a suit of armor that originally appeared in Dragon Quest II. It is a sturdy suit of armor infused with the power of the earth.
Characteristics
The art for the tectonic plate consists of a breastplate, pauldrons, tassets, and knee pads—all made out of a dark grey metal. The chest armor, shoulder pads, faulds, and knee pads all have dark red edges, while the tasset at the front of the waist has gold edging and a cross decoration. The breastplate also has an intricate curved design in the front. The armor is worn over chain mail and with a long blue cape that has white lining.
Appearances
Dragon Quest II
The tectonic plate has a defence bonus of +47 (+35 in the NES version). It can only be equipped by the Prince of Midenhall. The armor can be found in Dirkandor in the weapons & armor shop behind the counter and requires the Golden Key to access. It has no other special properties, aside from its high amount of defence.
Dragon Quest XI
The tectonic plate makes a reappearance in the series, but only in the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Switch versions of the game. The armor has a defence bonus of +123 and reduces flame attribute damage by 25%, upgrading to a maximum of +136 defence and a 40% reduction at the +3 rank. It can be equipped by the Luminary, Sylvando, and Hendrik.
