The incarnations of ''Dragon Quest VI'' have the appearance of a green book with their first pages and cover torn due to the age. In the cover a yellow eye can be found, and surrounding the eye there are black ritual marks. If you open these books you'll found a mouth with a pink tongue. In the incarnations of the ''[[Dragon Quest Monsters (series)|Monsters]]'' subseries the decoration is more complex, the covers now have a red demonic eye on them surrounded by red markings that resemble bloody veins and two skeletons. If you open these books, you'll be attacked by a monster that is summoned by them, the power of the monster depends on the size of the book.
