The wyrtoise (originally King Tortragon; TortoLord in the GBC translations) is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series. Introduced in Dragon Quest III, it is typically a stronger, orange-red variant of the wyrtle.

Etymology

  • The English name "Wyrntoise" is the combination of "wyrm" and "tortoise".
  • The Japanese name "ガメゴン Gamegon " is the combination of "かめ Kame "(turtle) and "ドラゴン Doragon "(Dragon). Then add the suffix "ロード roudo" (Lord) to separate from Wyrtle.
