The Field of Flowers is a remote area found southwest of the ruins of Damdara in the HD remake of the original Dragon Quest. As its name implies it is a verdant glen filled with blooming flowers, and this unassuming area would play a greater role in the life of the Hero and Over-Seer than any would guess.

Dragon Quest I HD-2D Remake

The Hero is first made aware of the field after receiving a vision from the vanished Dream-Whisperer while he spends the night in the Faerie Village, and is told that he will need the magic key to rescue Princess Gwaelin from the Quagmire Cave along with glimmergrass and wakerobin to create the cure for the illness killing the Captain of the Tantegel knights and the Dwarven Craftsman. Upon telling the Over-Seer of his dream, she informs him that the plants can be obtained past the mountains southwest of Damdara.

When the Hero makes his way into the secluded glen he obtains the reagents in short order, but also spots a mysterious fruit glowing in the distance. Though it is rotting, it gives off an aura teeming with natural power and splits open to reveal two glowing seeds. The Hero takes these with him and returns to the Faerie Village, where he sees the Over-Seer, Arm-Twister, & Day-Dreamer being cornered by a horde of monsters. After promptly obliterating the beasts, he delivers the glimmergrass and wakerobin to the faeries to concoct a dosage of sunup syrup to cure his ailing friends.

The Field of Flowers is also one of the destinations in the Zalen sidequest; the Troubadour is found in Galenholm and asks the Hero to find a place connected to Erdrick so that he can gain inspiration for his music. The Hero travels to the Field of Flowers and speaks with the Over-Seer, who admits that she only knew Erdrick briefly and had a closer connection to his father Ortega. She tells the Hero that Ortega saved her life in this very field so many centuries ago, but if he wants a better lead then he should speak with the Dream-Whisperer in the Shrine of Rain.
