It damages all targets with a powerful explosion. It is related to the weaker spell Bang, and the stronger spells Kaboom and Kaboomle.

Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of SalvationEdit
Boom is learned by Mages and Sages at level 23, and deal 52~68 damage for 9 MP. The Hero also learns it at Level 31.
In early versions of the game, the Thunderbolt blade when used as an item by The Hero or Warriors will have the same effect as this spell.
Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the ChosenEdit
Boom is learned by Maya Mahabala at level 23, and by the Hero at level 24. It deals 52~68 damage for a reduced cost of 8 MP.
It is also used exclusively in the remakes by Gnucifer and Juggular.

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of RevelationEdit
This spell is learned by advancing to rank 5 of the Mage vocation. It deals between 52~68 points of damage, and costs 8 MP to cast.
The enemies Aggrosculpture and Splutterfly can use it.
Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten PastEdit
The sixth tier of the Mage vocation learns Boom after 105 battles. The Barbatos class learns it after one battle. It costs 8 MP to cast.
It can be cast by the enemies Juggular, Whacksmith, Nutty professor, The Mighty Pip, The Time Being, Demon deacon, Live lava, and Gnucifer.
Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed KingEdit
Boom is learned by Jessica at level 23. The spell deals the traditional 52~68 base damage, but will start to grow in power once Jessica Albert's Wisdom surpasses 150. Once the stat reaches 200, the spell will deal 90~102 damage.
It is used by the enemies Morrimp, Mumboh-jumboe, Volpone, and Crayzee.
Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry SkiesEdit
Boom is available to Mages at level 28 and Sages at level 27. It costs 10 MP to cast, and will deals 52~68 base lightning/explosion damage. Once the caster's Magical Might surpasses 150 the spell will begin to grow in power, capping off at 152~168 when the stat reaches 999.
Dragon Quest XEdit
Sages will learn Boom at level 29, Mages at level 32, and it costs 10 MP to cast. It deals a minimum of 39~47 Light damage to all enemies within a 6 meter radius of the caster, with the maximum damage being 154-162 at 509 Magical Might.
Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive AgeEdit
Veronica will learn Boom at level 29 and the Luminary at level 31. It costs 12 MP to cast and will hit enemies for 68~76 base damage before growing to 140~148.

Boom costs 12 MP and is learned through the Bang Afficionado, Bang Virtuoso, Bombshell, Fire Chief, Mad Scientist, and Magic Maven talents. It has a base power of 60 and will deal an average of 160 damage at 699 Wisdom.
Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree's Woe and the Blight BelowEdit
Boom is the second tier spell of Nera Briscoletti and can be learned by investing 8 skill points. By charging her Bang spell for a short time, she can cast Boom, setting off a medium explosion in front of her for 16 MP. If used in conjunction with the magical bubbles that Nera can unleash with her wand, she will cause them to explode, as well. As her level increases, she will be able to upgrade the spell and learn Kaboom.

Dragon Quest WalkEdit
Boom can be learned by Mages and Armamentalists at level 40, Sages at level 35, and Grand Sorcerers at level 15. It costs 18 MP to cast and deals moderate Bang-type spell damage to all enemies.
Dragon Quest TactEdit
Boom is known naturally by Archdemon at level 1, and can be learned by Drackyma at level 16, Splatypunk at level 18, Vis mager at level 22, Wrecktor at level 26, Moosifer at level 28, Silvapithecus at level 46, and Cosmic chimaera and Slimecicle at level 48. It costs 30 MP to cast, has a range of two squares away from the caster in any direction, and inflicts moderate Bang-type spell damage to all enemies in a plus sign-shaped area of effect.
It can also be taught to any unit by using a Boom scroll, which can be received as a reward for completing Chapter 6, Episode 5: A bashfull bullfinch of the main storyline, Psaro's Peak on Very Hard in the Dragon Quest IV event, and for completing the seventh stage of Madusa's Battle Road.

There are also a few variations of the spell: Compressed Boom, Dessert Boom, and Earth-Shattering Boom.
Dragon Quest: The Adventure of DaiEdit
Many characters in the series are capable of casting Boom. It is first cast by Derolin when he and his group of false heroes attacked Dermline Island and attempted to kidnap Gomechan. Boom sends out a projectile from the caster's hand like a bomb that creates an explosion.
Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai: A Hero's BondsEdit
Boom appears as a spell for Princess Leona and the Luminary Leader. It is a long-range attack that inflicts magical Light damage over a wide area. The main way to unlock the skill is through the shop exchange.
Enemy versionsEdit
Boom debuts as an enemy spell in VI, and hits for 35~45 damage. It would keep this range until VIII, where it loses some of it's bite, hitting for 28~36 damage. The enemy version in IX bolsters its force up to 35~50 damage.
