EtymologyEdit

Mithril is a fictional metal found in J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth fantasy writings. It is described as resembling silver, but being stronger and lighter than steel. The name mithril comes from two words in Tolkien's fictional Sindarin language—mith meaning "grey", and ril meaning "glitter". Mithril, often spelled mythril, appears in many fantasy works, including books, tabletop games, and video games.
