The Dread admiral is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest III. It is a purple-winged variant of the Batterfly capable of inflicting paralysis with its attacks.

Dragon Quest X
Dread Admirals reappear in the game from 7.5 onwards, being encountered in Pluvi Isle. They retain their Burning Breath, but trade out their Paralysis Attack for calling in more of their kind.

- The dread admiral's English name is sinister spin on red admiral, the common name for the Vanessa atalanta species of butterfly.
