Plus Alpha, is a localization company that has localized every Dragon Quest game after Dragon Quest VIII. They are known for their use of British English, to "give their products a fresh flavour", or so they say. Though their translations may seem perfectly fine to the average gamer, closer examination of the original versions of the games reveal that almost everything is changed, and next to none of the original names of characters, items, locations, spells, monsters, etc., are kept. In exchange for taking no care in keeping the original version's text intact, they add in pointless humor, accents, or references, that (according to the majority) nearly ruin the game in its entirety. This kind of approach to localization has enraged many of the fans, such as this one, this one, and expecially this one. Something not well known to many, is that Square Enix has forced them to add the pointless humor to their Dragon Quest localizations, as Plus Alpha themselves state here. Plus Alpha is composed of two people, Clare Saracine, and Will Blatchley, and their company slogan is "You'd never know it started in Japanese.".

Nintendo Power Support

Nintendo Power has claimed that the DS localization of Dragon Quest IV is closer to the original Japanese version then Dragon Warrior IV, this has been proven false, however, which questions the reliability of Nintendo Power.
