Dragon shield
The Dragon Shield is a recurring piece of equipment in the Dragon Quest (series), bearing the likeness of (and likely constituting of) dragon scales and bones. In keeping with this, it grants excellent resistance to fire breath.
Appearances
Dragon Quest III
Grants +32 defence, and cuts fire breath damage by 33.3%. Can be bought in Manoza for 35000, and can be equipped by Warriors, Thieves, and the Hero.
Dragon Quest IV
The dragon shield has a defence bonus of +30, and protects against fire and ice attacks by 33.3% in the original and by 25 in the remakes. It may be equipped by Ragnar and the Hero.
Dragon Quest V
The dragon shield has a defence bonus of +30, and protects against fire and ice attacks by 10 in all versions. It can be purchased in
Dragon Quest VI
Grants +30, and cuts breath damage by 15. Can be purchased in the Port Haven and Turnscote casinos for 2000 tokens, and may be equipped by the Hero, Carver, Amos, Terry, and Lizzie, humorously enough. When a character also dons the Dragon mail and Dragonsbane, they receive a +15 style boost.

The dragon shield has a defence bonus of +30 and cuts breath damage by 25. It can be equipped by the Hero or Yangus, and may be purchased in Orkustk for 6900.
Dragon Quest IX
Grants +24 defence, a 3.5% block chance, and cuts fire/ice damage by 10%. It can be crafted by combining a Magic Shield, a Raging Ruby, and three Dragon Scales. It can be equipped by any vocation that can bear a shield.
