Dragon Quest: Monster Battle Scanner is a 2015 Japan-only arcade game based on their Monster Battle spinoff series. Like the other games in the series, players can battle monsters and win physical cards with monster data imprinted on them. Later on, the game was officially renamed to Fight! Dragon Quest Scan Battlers (戦え! ドラゴンクエストスキャンバトラーズ,, Tatakae! Doragon Kuesuto Sukyan Batorāzu). The service for this game ended on September 30, 2020 in Japan.

The game was released in arcades in Malaysia and Taiwan in English. This localization later collaborated with the Global version of Dragon Quest of the Stars. On March 12th, 2020, Season 4 -focused on Dragon Quest VI- launched in Malaysia. Season 5 -focused on Dragon Quest VII- launched in the country on May 13th, 2021. Season 6 -focused on Dragon Quest VIII- launched in the country on March 10th, 2022. The service for this game in Malaysia is set to be discontinued at the end of Season 6 on September 30, 2022, two exact years since the game ended in Japan.

Cards[edit]

There are three kinds of cards that players can scan:

Special Cards: "Scan these cards to unleash an Ultimate Attack!" Scanning a special card summons the characters in the card and they perform Ultimate Attacks, which usually do a ton of damage and have very detailed animations.
Equipment Cards: "These are how you outfit yourself for battle! There are three types of equipment: Weapons, Armour, and Shields." The player must equip three before embarking on a quest. Their equipment affect the player's stats. If players don't have enough equipment cards, they can borrow equipment.
Monster Cards: "Scan these cards to call forth a monster!" Players must scan three monsters before embarking on a quest. If they don't have enough cards to scan, they can borrow monsters.
