Dragon Quest Wiki talk:Site Move 2017

From Dragon Quest Wiki

Miscellaneous suggestions[edit]

Off the top of my head, I can think of three things that would help users and keep the spam bots down:

  • An easily accessible list of all available templates on the sidebar tools section, such as TheCodingGamer's enemy boxes and shop lists, as well as older ones like the spell infobox. This would allow new users to hit the ground running and keep everything organized.
  • Similarly, a list of the coding used for specific quote colors. Having the boxes match a character's shade is an excellent touch, but its hard to memorize the exact sequences.
  • Trickier registration questions based on series trivia. Nothing as harsh as memorizing Milly's measurements, but questions that would be challenging for Chinese bots to brute force their way through.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll take a closer look at these after the site has been migrated to the new host. --FlyingRagnar (talk) 00:05, 10 September 2017 (CDT)

Interested in migration[edit]

Hey y'all, sorry to bother you.

I'm the head of the French DraQue Wikia, and I'd be interesting in hosting my deeds somewhere else. Nothing decided yet, but I could do with some advice (already tried to contact NIWA or SEIWA, can't remember which one, cuz no response).

Also, I've got the database dump of a wiki shut down by Wikia's trouducs and I'd like to establish it somewhere else.

So, if I could just, someday, have a little chat with one o' you, about technical stuff and advice, I'd be glad. Since this thread is about migrating a database to another place, I thought I would just jump on the occasion to make myself known, sorry if I'm being out of topic.

Anyway, good luck on your moving, 'tis a very good wiki you have here, with some rare stuff.

See you around I hope.

That sounds like an excellent idea--if you cannot contact FlyingRagnar yourself let me know and I'll get a hold of him. No need to be apologetic either, we're all fans of the same series and we want to proliferate knowledge through it. Plus, the French got VII brought to the west.(Follower of Light (talk) 11:39, 5 September 2017 (CDT))
Hey, sorry fot the late response. I'll try reaching him when I get the time to. I also have a Discord account if anything, if fancying a little chat about how Wikia's gone clicbait and, more generally, bananas :) or if you find it more comfy.
Anyway, thanks for youer kind greetings ; and you also had a fully retranslated version of VII, so I guess the excitement was equal on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean ! Well, French have the advantage of stability in localisations, which is a plus for wiki work. But you're lucky having had Rocket Slime, which I played and loved. :)
