I have nothing to say about this article, except "Amen." --Kahran042 21:43, 18 October 2008 (EDT)

This article doesn't seem like something that would fit in a wiki, kinda like that other article mocking the current translation on Dragon Quest Wikia. --Lafferluff 12:17, 24 October 2010 (CDT)

It does provide a decent history with regard to the series, though I would agree that it could probably be edited to make it more neutral. - Adan Aileron (talk) 20:43, 24 October 2010 (CDT)
Basically what they said: more neutrality. The outside opinions could probably be given, but the article itself shouldn't support or demean them. Otherwise this might be better as a column of sorts, something that wouldn't entirely reflect the views of the community (though, in this case, it just might). --PantheonSasuke 19:13, 25 October 2010 (CDT)
Article starts out okay, but the further you read the more it starts to just turn into a rant about how whoever wrote this doesn't like particular styles of translation. And so many exclamation points. Encyclopedic articles should never have exclamation points outside of when they are quoting material that includes exclamation points.76.226.109.144 17:44, 30 September 2012 (CDT)
What really, really bugs me is the use of "weasel words." "Many believe etc" in particular is irritating, since the author just states things to "support" their "point" that they don't like the new translations... and really, that's what it all comes down to. This "article" starts out alright, but it quickly devolves into endless whining over how "bad" the new translations are because they don't match the old ones. Whoever wrote this really needs to take off their nostalgia-filtered glasses and stop trying to pass of their beliefs as fact, claiming an invisible number of people support everything they say.

Creating a new article[edit]

Clearly, we need to start entirely over with the localization history article; as Follower of Light has noted, this article is horribly, horribly opinionated and reads as a rant by a butt-hurt fan of the older translations. As a NIWA/SEIWA wiki, we need to be the objective go-to on Dragon Quest information; it's one of the dividing lines between us an the Wikia site. Personally, I don't think the previous version of the article is salvageable; it's structure might have some indications of a direction, but none of the content is really useable and many of those sections play into that rant-design. We need a history article is is clear and concise about the various North American localization branches of Enix/Square-Enix/Nintendo, going through the history broken down by years. Probably better not to have sections stuffed in 3/4 of the way down on different types of translation changes (monsters, spells, names, items, God in DQVII, sounds, voice acting). These are elements that can be discussed within the relevant temporal subsections. Marandahir (talk) 12:16, 3 June 2016 (CDT)
