Hero Skills
In addition to skills learned through vocations, the [[Hero (Dragon Quest IX)|Hero]] of ''[[Dragon Quest IX]]'' learns two special plot abilities:
The hero receives the "Egg On" skill after a scene at Quester's Rest from Patty and will learn the spell [http://dragonquest.wikia.com/wiki/Zoom Zoom] after returning to the Celestrian Observatory aboard the [http://dragonquest.wikia.com/wiki/Starlight_Express Starlight Express]. Egg On is the only hero-specific skill in the game.

Unlike in previous Dragon Quest games, Zoom is only available to the Hero after first returning to the [[Observatory]] and arriving at [[Newid Isle]]. Since it costs nothing to casts, [[chimaera wing]]s are only needed if the hero is incapacitated.

Egg On

Taught by Patty after speaking with her in the Quester's Rest. This ability increases the tension of an ally by one level.

Note that despite teaching the hero this skill, Patty cannot actually use it if she joins the party.

Zoom

Unlike in previous Dragon Quest games, Zoom is only available to the Hero after first returning to the Observatory and arriving at Newid Isle. Since it costs nothing to casts, chimaera wings are only needed if the hero is incapacitated.
