Patty is a recurring character from the Dragon Quest series, serving as the party planner in several games.
She first appeared in Dragon Quest III, in which she is the proprietor of her eponymous bar on the island kingdom of Aliahan.
Appearance and personality[edit]
Patty utilizes the common village woman sprite in the original versions of III, V, and VI, switching this for the bunny girl design in the assorted remade versions of those titles. Starting with IX, however, Patty is depicted as a tall woman with long blue hair wearing it in a ponytail and blue eyes. Her attire is that of a female bar-tender, donning a revealing red/white blouse and a orange dress and wears brown boots. She wears gold bracelets on each of her wrists, and ties her hair with a large black bow.
Patty displays some personality in her brief dialogue in the older titles, being a perpetually cheery aid eager to set up the perfect adventuring party for the main character. Patty gains a more distinct personality in Dragon Quest IX, being presented as a woman of the world whose stubbornness is exceeded only by her compassion for others. Referring to her friends as "dear", "honey" or "sweetie" in conversation, including the Hero, she carries herself as an older sister of sorts.
Her bullheadedness allows her to overcome hardships that would make others falter, as demonstrated when she walked all the way from Stornway to Angel Falls on the mere possibility of convincing Erinn's father to return to Stornway. She is also a woman of courage, shown when she explored the depths of The Hexagon after a recent earthquake, before being halted by the Hexagoon.
Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation[edit]
Patty is the proprietor of the local bar in Aliahan, with the King of Aliahan insisting that the player make use of her services so to avoid the tragedy that befell the solitary Ortega. She will organize a party for Hero and offer words of advice in addition to removing and adding members to the Hero's party.
Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake[edit]
Patty appears with the design first seen in Dragon Quest IX. Here it is revealed that she has been friends with the Hero since their childhood, continuing her trend of acting as an older sister to protagonists begun in the ninth game–though she insists that she's barely a few years older than the Hero.
Upon the defeat of Baramos and Zoma's declaration of war, Patty will reveal that she knows all about the situation despite the King of Aliahan's best efforts to keep the Lord of the Underworld a secret from his subjects thanks to an excellent network of informants she maintains. She reveals how her party planning place came to be, explaining that the King of Aliahan blamed himself for Ortega's death as he was unable to send him on the quest with any assistance. Driven by his grief the King set to establish a hub for adventurers to gather and join forces, with an adolescent Patty aiding by calling in favors to get the first few parties established. With those initial successes the King opened the coffers and spared no expense to spread word of the project throughout the entire world to solicit the best candidates, turning Patty's bar into the mecca of adventurers. Patty will state that none of the adventurers in her roster care a whiff about Zoma's threats and are ready to stand by the Hero through thick and thin.
When speaking to Patty after Ortega is revived she will be overjoyed for the Hero's sake and reflect on the time she spent with Ortega as a little girl, hovering around all the time him to hear about his latest adventure whenever he returned to Aliahan. She insisted he teach her how to use a blade, settling for a dagger due to her age, and the training he put her through gave her the fastest feet in the kingdom. Patty jokes that she puts these skills to use every day in the kitchen of her bar and by serving the customers instead of fighting monsters on the side, a bit of meta-humor for players expecting her to join the party as she did in Dragon Quest IX.
Patty is also the final opponent in the eleventh rank of the Jipang Monster Arena, using a hydra and infernal serpent. She will tease the Hero before the contest commences and prove herself to be a bit of a sore-loser upon being defeated.
Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride[edit]
Patty has settled in Gotha this time around, managing the bar on the second floor of the castle. When not pouring drinks for the castle guards and gossiping with the ladies, she'll service her King by helping him assign the human members of his party. Rumor has it that this Patty has a soft spot for certain monster loving geezers...
Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation[edit]
Tucked away behind the bar in Alltrades Abbey, Patty has improved her trade to the point that she can now manage the protagonist's more bestial buddies along with his human companions. How she got the head Priest to allow her to set up a bar in an abbey is a question only the Goddess herself can answer.
Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies[edit]
Patty is introduced to the Hero while she was on her way to Angel Falls to find Erinn's father Edwinn. It turns out that she became lost in The Hexagon for some time, which is why the knights of Stornway are searching for her. Erinn remembers her name from her father's conversations, and she asks the Hero to find rescue her. Once in The Hexagon the Hero must explore and search for Patty, finding her trapped under a rock dislodged during the earthquake at the beginning of the game. After defeating the Hexagoon that was inside the chamber, Patty thanks the Hero and introduces herself properly. After reaching Angel Falls, she convinces Erinn to venture to Stornway in her father's stead to take over the inn.
In Stornway at the inn called Quester's Rest, she functions as the party planner for the Hero. If spoken to, she can add, remove or create characters for the Hero's party.
As a party member[edit]
Her backstory is expanded during quest #125 "Perk Up, Patty!"; completing it allows the player to recruit her as a party member. Note that she still runs the party planner at the counter while the player is inside the Quester's Rest. Patty's default Vocation Level 28 Thief, and she is equipped with a deadly nightblade, her dirndl, her shoes, and a lucky pendant, however the player must manually assign her skill points.
Dragon Quest X[edit]
Patty was added to the tenth game on it's 5th anniversary, setting up shop in the city of Astoria. She offers free advice, vocation changing, and the ability to enlist A.I. controlled characters to help players trying to solo quests and dungeons.

Patty appears in these games to let the player rearrange the party, and retains her appearance from IX.
