Characteristics
Wyrtoises are quadrupedal Dragons whose bodies are covered by a protective olive green shell like that of their namesake. They have long necks and tails like dragons, as well as a tall pair of horns on their heads, fins on either side of their faces, sharp fangs, and grey scales running down their backs to the ends of their tails. Their shells and scales offer them a high degree of protection from both physical and magical attacks, and they are capable of further bolstering their defences with the help of both Kabuff and Bounce. The wyrtoise can breathe out blistering hot flames and, in later games, shock enemies with lightning bolts and spin in their shells to release flames.

Trivia
*Though possibly coincidental, the wyrtoise and its pallet-swaps bear a striking resemblance to the extinct horned turtle meiolania, which lived approximately in Australia during the Holocene period.
*The MFamilies's Flame Rotation attack, as well as its card artwork for Rivals, is a homage to the daikaiju Gamera, who is able to fly like a UFO by retracting into his shell and expelling propulsion flames from his limb openings. This homage is also made by the tortoceratops in the Battle Road games.

The wyrtoise is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, introduced in Dragon Quest III.

It is a stronger, orange-red variant of the Wyrtle whose Japanese name implies a position of leadership amongst the terrapins.

Characteristics[edit]

Etymology[edit]

 • The English name "Wyrtoise" is the combination of "wyrm" and "tortoise".
 • The Japanese name "ガメゴンロード Gamegon Rudo " is the combination of "かめ Kame "(turtle) and "ドラゴン Doragon "(Dragon), adding the suffix "ロード roudo" (Lord) to separate from it from the lesser Wyrtles.

Trivia[edit]

 • Though possibly coincidental, the wyrtoise and its pallet-swaps bear a striking resemblance to the extinct horned turtle meiolania, which lived approximately in Australia during the Holocene period.
 • The monster's Flame Rotation attack, as well as its card artwork for Rivals, is a homage to the daikaiju Gamera, who is able to fly like a UFO by retracting into his shell and expelling propulsion flames from his limb openings. This homage is also made by the tortoceratops in the Battle Road games.
