Localization history
The dragonsbane claws and the dragonsbane sword are in fact the same weapon in the Japanese language, with both being called the doragon kira (ドラゴンキラー). The claws use the original design of the sword that was retired from the series for a traditionally-shaped blade in Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King in 2004, and were given a new name in the English localization of Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake to better distinguish the two weapons.
