Pilgrim's Perdition (formerly Penal) is a village to the south of Alltrades Abbey in Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. It is a place where those who have had their spells and abilities stolen by Cardinal Sin live.
Story[edit]
The party is dumped into this pit immediately after having their powers drained by Cardinal Sin, and are forced into a losing battle against Strom as a way of welcome. The king of the dirt clod enforces one ironclad rule: those who succumb to the monsters' temptation of using the Soulstealer sword to drain five humans of their lives and be allowed to leave are killed. Everything else goes in the perdition, leading to a life of fear and misery for the weak.
The town is full of people lost to despair and the cut-throats who prey upon them, but the former abbey guard Eustace is determined to retake the holy sanctuary after escaping. The party is also introduced to the siblings Nava and Zev before watching the former lose her soul to a panicking warrior who leapt at the chance to earn his freedom at the cost of the lives of others. Alongside Eustace, Fingers the thief, and an agonized Zev the party makes a break for freedom amidst the chaos.
Present[edit]
Only the ruins of Pilgrim's Perdition exist in the present, where bandits lay in wait to prey upon passerbys.
