The Night light (formerly Lamp of darkness or Dark lamp) is an item in the Dragon Quest series. It shifts day to night upon use out on the world map and doesn't work in towns or dungeons.
Appearances
Dragon Quest III
First game with the Lamp of darkness (called Dark lamp in the Game Boy Color Version). The lamp is found in the shop at Tedanki and can be obtained during the day. In the NES Version it can't be sold, while in the GBC Version, it will sell for 225 gold coins.
Dragon Quest IV
Found in Chapter 4 by Meena and Maya in Gupta Gupha, it was created by their father Mahabala. It remains in their possession when they join up with the hero at the start of Chapter 5.
Dragon Quest V
Found in the Whealbrook Adit after revisiting during the second generation.
Dragon Quest VII
Won from first completion of the DLC Tablet "Den of the Wintry Wyrm" after defeating the Blue dragon in the Nintendo 3DS Version only. As the game lacks the day/night cycle, the function of the Night light is the ability to nullify all spells for the rest of the battle for both the party and enemy/enemies.
