The Divine Shrine (formerly known as the Sky Fane) is a location in Dragon Quest VII.
This fortress is the home of the Holy Order of the Almighty and floats high above in the heavens, thanks to the power of the Sacred stones.
Story[edit]
The Hero and party first arrives at the shrine after using the Sacred stone received at Aeolus Vale at the Altar of Arrival near Faraday in the present. When held aloft, a platform lowers from above, which transports the party to the heavens. There a member of the Holy Order of the Almighty is surprised that someone from the ground in possession of a Sacred stone.
He wonders if they have arrived to late, but welcomes them to the shrine in any case. There they meet a dancer who entrusts the party with the Vestment of Virtue, a holy garment necessary for performing the Ritual of Restoration. This is the very same dress worn by Lala when the party visited the Roamers in the past.
The party eventually learns that the Roamers were originally descended from the Holy Order themselves, but their shrine fell from the sky after the Almighty's defeat at the hands of Orgodemir. From then on, the Roamers were forced to wander from place to place, in order to prevent the Demon King and his minions from reaching them and so they could eventually perform the Ritual of Restoration for the Almighty.
In the northern part of the shrine lies a pedestal for placing Mysterious Fragments which transports the party into the past to the Pool of Piety, another shrine of the Holy Order which fell to the earth. There the party travels underwater through the Coral Cave to the Altar of Arrival, which bears the insignia of the Almighty. They hold the Sacred stone aloft there, which sends the shrines there floating into the sky in order to fully complete the Divine Shrine.
Upon returning to the Divine Shrine in the present, the Divine Shrine is now complete, with the western and southern wings now available. The western part of the shrine has shops where the party can purchase powerful equipment. In the southern part of the shrine, the party meets the High Priestess of the Order, who tells them that thanks them for their efforts to complete the Divine Shrine and explains the true nature of the Sacred stones, which are more than cold rocks. She states that they are imbued with the hopes and dreams of people of the world. Just then, the Skystone arrives at the shrine, which is borne from the same origins as the Sacred stones and allows the party to travel anywhere in the world with the power of flight.
When the party finally defeats Orgodemir, they are transported from the Cathedral of Blight back to the Divine Shrine, where the High Priestess and all of the Holy Order wish to give their thanks for bringing peace back to the world. She states that it was not due to any miracle or intervention from the Almighty Himself, but because of their courage and efforts.
