Torneko appraising horse manure

In the Dragon Quest series, Appraisal is a function that allows a character to examine and identify the properties of any item or equipment. While normally handled by merchants, in some installments the Peep spell enables this function.

Appraisal indicates any hidden effects of equipment, as well as party members that can equip it, and resale price.
