The Medal King is a recurring non-player character in the Dragon Quest series. He first appeared in Dragon Quest IV and has appeared in all subsequent main series games, as well as many side series games. Early on, he was referred to as simply 'Medal King', or 'King who collects small medals'. However, in later games and remakes, each king is usually given a specific name.

Dragon Quest VIII

The Medal King resides in Princess Minnie's Castle. However, unlike in other Dragon Quest games, he does not collect the Mini Medals, as he is very ill. In his stead, Princess Minnie collects the Mini Medals.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age

While the Medal king does not make a physical appearence, He is a character intrinsically linked to L'Académie de Notre Maitre des Médailles. According to one of the books in the school's library, l'Académie was founded by a nameless mini medal obsessed king from a distant land, who whished that his daughter whould grow up loving them as much as he. Furthermore, according to a nearby slime, the shambled hut hidden under the well in the garden is the estive residence of a monarch similarly inclined (though considering how long monsters, including slimes, live its possible that this king and the founder are one and the same). Nowadays many of the students of the Académie doubt the veracity of the story behind the founding of the school.
