Calamus Flute

The Calamus Flute is an important item in Dragon Quest XI. As it's name implies, it is a flute that has the power to summon the flying whale Cetacea.

Usage

The Calamus Flute is another means of transport around Erdrea, similar to horseback. However, the use of the Calamus Flute summons Cetacea and allows the player to take to the skies, and reach areas that cannot normally be reached, such as Havens Above or Mordegon's Fortress of Fear. There's also special locations called Whale-Way Stations that can only be reached riding Cetacea.

Story

The Calamus Flute was first discovered by Erdwin and his party. With the flute, they rode Cetacea into battle against the Dark One and defeat him. The day after the Dark One was defeated, Serenica left the instrument in Arboria before disappearing. Centuries after, the fight Father Benedictus would give Veronica the flute, as a memento of her ancestor.
