Rippleport

Rippleport is a port village in northwestern Greater Alefgard. It is the location where a ship can be obtained in Dragon Quest II.

As it is the only town with a port in the game, it can be inferred that Rippleport is the center of commerce in the realm.

AppearancesEdit

Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary LineEdit

The party fighting gremlins in town.

After rescuing a girl from two gremlins, the Scions of Erdrick receive a ship from her grandfather for them to use in traveling the world.

After this point, the game becomes much more non-linear: as long as they are prepared to deal with strong enough monsters, the Scions can travel anywhere they please.

Like any port town, gambling is available via the tombola house, with a bank present as well. A bunny girl in the southwest corner offers to give the princes Puff-Puff.

By giving the sunken treasure to a man reachable only by ship, the Scions will receive the echo flute.

Dragon Quest II HD-2D RemakeEdit

Rippleport's buildings are now noticeably more stately than those of other villages in the game, owing to it being the heart of maritime commerce in Greater Alefgard. The shipyard building has been expanded to realistic proportions and features tall glass windows for natural light, several hanging chains to move the logs for ship construction, and even a private villa within its walls where a well-off Treasure-Hunter lounges between ventures. The Puff-Puff scene has been altered so that the bunny girl busts out a pair of pompoms and cheers on the Prince of Midenhall and Prince of Cannock. If either female Scion in in the party then she will decline to offer her services and instead remark how lucky the lads are to travel with such fair maidens.

Rippleport is the first place where the Scions of Erdrick witness the cult known as the Children of Hargon attempting to recruit new devotees, replacing the boss battle with the gremlins from past versions of the game. Instead, the Scions witness the Treasure-Hunter pleading with the Mayor of Rippleport and his wife the Port Manager to be allowed to set sail for his next expedition. The two authorities rebuke the enterprising man, reminding him that he was hired to rescue the Rippleport citizens who've been lured away to the mountains to the north by a suspicious nun espousing blasphemies. The Treasure-Hunter shamefully admits he oversold his capabilities just as the Scions approach the conversation and the Prince of Cannock asks where they can obtain a vessel of their own. The oblivious lad is sharply scolded by the Port Manager, with the Treasure-Hunter and Mayor explaining that their troubles began when they gave the nun the benefit of the doubt by allowing her to stay in Rippleport. She drew a larger and larger congregation every day. Before long she was joined by a companion in the form of a unsettling man claiming to be a wandering merchant, and their sermons culminated in them leading a large group of townsfolk to the mountains, including the Mayor's own daughter.

The Prince of Cannock volunteers the group to come to Rippleport's aid, exemplifying noblesse oblige, and the trio heads for the hills. Upon dispatching the profane pilgrims and talking sense into the people who've been led astray, they return to Rippleport to witness the family reunite in front of the shipyard. Their daughter explains that the life in a shipping town is not easy, that she and the others were easily duped by the nun's sweet words and promises of fulfillment. The Port Manager insists the trio take one of her ships as a reward for saving her daughter and the others. Her only stipulation is that the Scions give a hearty cheer as they weigh anchor and depart, as is the Rippleport custom. As the ship must be stocked and inspected before setting sail, the Mayor puts the Scions up for the night at the inn: the three are contacted in their slumber by the Dream-Whisperer, guiding them to their next destination. After enjoying a banquet the innkeeper prepared for them, the Scions of Erdrick set sail for Tantegel.
