The scale shield is a recurring shield that appears in the Dragon Quest series, first introduced in Dragon Quest IV. It is a typically low-ranking shield that is made from scales.

The scale shield was added in the 1996 remake. It has a defense bonus of +12, and can be equipped by the Hero, Warriors, Priests, Merchants, Gadabouts, Thieves & Sages. It can be purchased for 600 gold coins, and sold for 450 gold coins.

The scale shield has a Defense bonus of +7, and can be equipped by all characters except for Alena & Maya Mahabala. Hank Hoffman Jr. & Oojam have it among their equipment. It can be purchased for 180 gold coins and sold for 135 gold coins. Tessie Taloon will sell this at Torneko's shop for 270.
Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly BrideEdit
The scale shield has a Defense bonus of +7. They can be bought for 180 gold coins in Roundbeck, Fortuna, Lodestar Harbour, Zoomingale and Gotha. The can be sold for 90 gold coins. Many party members humans and monsters can equip it.
Dragon Quest VI: Realms of RevelationEdit
Scale shields have a Defense bonus of +7 and a Style bonus of +4. The Hero, Carver, Amos, Terry, Nevan, and Goowain can equip them. Gum shields and wayward armours have a 1/64 chance of dropping a Scale shield. They can be sold for 135 gold and bought for 180 gold coins in Haggleton, Somnia, and Port Haven.
Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten PastEdit
The scale shield has a Defence bonus of +7 and a Style bonus of +4. It can be equipped by the Hero, Kiefer, Sir Mervyn and Aishe and is sold in both versions of Emberdale for 180 gold coins.

They can be bought in Alexandria, Port Prospect, and Peregrin Quay for 180 gold coins as well as sold for 90 gold coins. Headhunters, wild boarfish, and yabbies drop them rarely. Its alchemy recipe is leather shield + dragon scale.
