"Only from the depths of infinite despair can this world be reborn in all the glory it deserves. Now, my beloved children, we have a world to make anew."

Azabel, also known by her full title of Azabel the Dawnbringer, is a villain who committed the ultimate sins in her desire to bring ruin to the world aeons before the events of Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince.

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince

Azabel was a Zenithian who saw only the impurities and imperfections of the material world, growing disgusted that the strong were able to trample over the weak with no threat of punishment for their cruelties. Seeing fit to remake the world in the form of her own ideals, she stole the forbidden Secret of Creation and birthed three incomprehensibly powerful monsters to further her ambition in the depths of the Cradle of Corruption. She would view these living blasphemies as her own children, naming them Dumajurah, Izmajurah, and Venjurah.

Upon their birth, Azabel instructed her creations to begin laying waste to the planet, caring naught for the voices of the innocent that cried out in agony as their bodies were burned to ashes as she considered momentary suffering to be a small price to pay for being reborn in her coming utopia. This holocaust of flames would be stopped by the Zenith Dragon and his heavenly host after a difficult war against the heretical family.

As her punishment for committing the ultimate sins of abusing the Secret of Creation and stealing countless lives, the Zenith Dragon would seal Azabel away in the long-lost whispwoods, where she would remain for countless centuries until the events of the game. Her seal would be broken by Ludo in the post-game as part of his master plan, and she would receive the souls of her wayward children to fuse with them into an all-powerful, six-winged form with blood red eyes.

Transformed, Azabel possesses 10,500 HP, incredible agility, acts twice per turn, Crafty Devil, and Ultra Crafty Sizzer. She will attack with Big Banga, Blessed Breath, Disruptive Wave, Kanumb, Kasplashle, Kasnooze, Katoxle, Pearly Gates, and Wave of Relief.

Etymology

  • Azabel is possibly the combination of the Azrael, the Abrahamic angel of death, and Jezebel, the wife of King Ahab and proponent of Baal worship over Yahweh.
  • Her title of Dawnbringer is a direct reference to the fallen angel Lucifer, whose name translates from Latin as "morning-star" and "light bringer".
