Mount Necrogond is an active volcano found in Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake. It separates the Necrogond region from the outer world, making it the first line of defence for the archfiend Baramos.

AppearancesEdit

Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of SalvationEdit

The volcano only appears as an overworld tile that halts the player's progress until the legendary mountaincleaver sword is cast into it, triggering an eruption that fills a river to circumvent the impassable mountain. The volcano was setting for the dynamic opening sequence of the 1991 American NES release, where the Hero's father Ortega battles a winged dragon along the rim and seemingly loses his life as the wyrm pulls him into the crater. This sequence was retained for the 1996 Super Famicom remake, where the dragon was replaced by a nondescript monster.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D RemakeEdit

The volcano has been given a proper name and is now a small dungeon entered from the overworld. The events shown in the opening sequence of the Super Famicom version are retained, with the unknown monster being redesigned into the Garboyle; the winged demon serves as the region's boss battle and must be killed before the mountaincleaver can be thrown into the volcano. Later, players can find a friendly magmalice dwelling along the rim.

TriviaEdit

  • It is implied that there is a hole that leads to the underworld somewhere beneath the volcano due to it being Ortega's last known whereabouts.
