Dragon Quest II HD-2D Remake

The Cave of the Lake is now a mandatory dungeon, with the Prince of Midenhall and Prince of Cannock exploring it's depths to retrieve the bottomless pot in order to empty the flooded Gwaelin's Gate and continue on to Moonbrooke. The cave can only be explored once the Prince of Cannock has joined his cousin―the guards will not allow the Prince of Midenhall to explore it alone or with the Princess of Cannock tagging along.

The guards will have been killed by two members of the Children of Hargon, Abra & Cadabra, after the player first sees the damage done to Gwaelin's Gate. This scene is important to the character development of the Prince of Cannock, as it quickly underlines the gravity of the quest.

Aside from now hosting the game's first boss battle, not much about the cave's layout has changed aside from aesthetic flourishes such as moss growing in under the cracks in the ceiling where light seeps through and the main treasure chest now being on a raised platform in a small pond filled with lilypads.
