First Note
I had been looking into making something like this and then I found your project. This is awesome! I have been playing DW/DQ since I got my copy from Nintendo Power :D I use wikipedia all of the time but this is the first time I've ever created content so please feel free to let me know if I am doing anything wrong. I wasn't sure if this is even where I am supposed to leave a note. Geminate
cite.php
Hi, I'm new here, and I was hoping to clean up some of the pages. Do you think you could possibly install the extension cite.php? It really makes pages with a lot of references look nicer, like Dragon Quest IX for example. It's used extensively on Wikipedia, so it is not likely to break your wiki at all. --Null Set 02:22, 3 March 2010 (EST)
Trouble logging in
It says I am logged in but it won't let me make any edits, giving me this error. edit: Of course as soon as I go to mention it, it stops happening... --Null Set 14:13, 3 March 2010 (EST)
Wiki Name
Yeah, I think Dragon Quest Wiki is what we should go with for now. Mediawiki has a magic word for the name of the wiki, so in the future if you use {{SITENAME}}, it will fill in the current name for you.
I also added a bunch of extensions this morning which I think will be useful in the future. You can see them all at Special:Version. --FlyingRagnar 11:18, 18 October 2010 (CDT)
A Few Notes
Hey Zenithian, I wanted to mention a few things. Looks like most of the members from Wikia have come over. This is really cool. I was worried that many might not. Melios and Shinitenshi (sp?) are both good editors that have done a lot in the last few months. PantheonSasuke was an admin over on Wikia. I would consider making him and admin over as well. He is very knowledgeable about all of the monsters and did a lot of file renaming, etc. I think normal users can only do a limited number of file/page renames within a certain amount of time.
Also, I think the import caused a big jump in the job queue for the wiki. You can see it on the Special:Statistics page. It has been steadily going down, as one is processed each time a page is requested by someone. If you notice that any categories are not quite up to date, that might be the reason, as it takes mediawiki a little while to update all of the links etc. --FlyingRagnar 09:23, 29 October 2010 (CDT)
New Enemy Template
Hello Zenitihian. I am proposing a revamp to the current enemy template.
Honestly, I think the current template is quite ugly. It's at a weird angle, it's intruding on pages, and it doesn't show information in an attractive and organized way as well as it could. I tried to make a suitable replacement here.
You may notice that this will clog up space in pages with multiple templates and appearances. That's alright, I have a solution to that too. I would gladly break up the pages, making a separate page for each appearance and having the existing page a sort of "parent" page, linking and describing all individual entities. I would, again, gladly do all this myself. It's a big workload, but I have no life. :P
So, what do you think? I hope this doesn't bother or irritate you, especially my dreams of grandeur. Thank you for your time. --Silversey シルバーロック 21:03, 10 December 2010 (CST)
- Zenithian, I received your email. I have no issue with modifying the enemy/monster info template. I would recommend simply making edits to the existing enemy template since that would be much easier than changing 500 existing usages.
- However, I do not support the idea of breaking all enemies into multiple page or subpages. For Slime alone, there would need to be like 27 separate pages. When I created the enemy template, I added the show/hide mechanism to try to keep the tables from making the pages gigantically long. However, now they do kinda obscure the pages they appear on. I am open to any better ideas for displaying monster info. Maybe we should look around at some other RPG wikis for ideas? --FlyingRagnar 09:25, 14 December 2010 (CST)
- I'm in agreement about keeping it to one article per monster; I should have included that in the e-mail or referenced my comment on SilverCrono's talk page. I'll go ahead and update the template; all the fields are the same between the two so there's nothing else to change.
- I'd also like to update the Template:CharacterSpellList to include fields for MP, and maybe kana/romanji and a brief description, and make it collapsible, though I may need your help in redesigning it. zenithian 09:52, 14 December 2010 (CST)
Sofubi Figures
Hey Zenithian, is there a specific place where you have gotten your Sofubi figures? I was thinking about reserving a copy of Dragon Quest VI from gamestop, but that plush slime looks pretty lame. I wish they provided more items in the U.S. Some of those figures look really cool. --FlyingRagnar 22:35, 8 February 2011 (CST)
Warrior World
Haha, those Warrior World scans are nice! I found one of those a few months ago and meant to scan it. I seem to have misplaced it again. Do you have more of those to add? The one I have talked about how Dragon Quest V was "definitely" coming to America and about the delays, etc. --FlyingRagnar 13:47, 21 October 2011 (CDT)
User Rights
Zenithian,
I should probably clarify what the user rights are. To edit or upload, users must confirm their email address. This prevents spam from users using fake email addresses. I've also blocked users from registering with using a "throw away" email service. I added the manager role because we have several folks working with images who need to be able to delete old junk ([User:Vzing|Vzing],[User:Icysugarspike|Icysugarspike]). However, I realized that by giving this to autoconfirmed users, there was no way to take away the delete privilege easily if someone abused it. So, instead I created the manager role. --FlyingRagnar 12:56, 13 January 2012 (CST)
