Can be found near the beginning of the game.
Despite the name, the scarlet slimes' sexes are as ambiguous as those of regular slimes and the nomenclature is meant to evoke real life species of animals such as ladybugs.
 
The change from the older red slime localization name is due to modern hardware with more color shades available than what the graphical limitations of the {{NES}} allowed, with the globsbeing more of an orange shade than red. According to some games, the she-slimes are a different color than ordinary slimes due to an uncommon genetic mutation; this relative rarity has led them to be referred to as "don't-often-see-slimes".
