The Grim gryphon is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest XI. They are the latest additions to the gryphon clan, serving as the weakest pallet-swap within the group. Like their brethren, they are bipedal gryphons with three eyes and considerable spell-casting capability.
Characteristics[edit]
Grim gryphons are monstrous gryphons, having the upper bodies of sky blue eagles with large wingspans and the powerful lower bodies of lions with olive drab green fur. Their most distinctive characteristics are the third eye on their foreheads and the long tongues that poke out of their beaks. They are capable of attacking twice in quick succession with their sharp talons and have some skill with magic. Despite their intimidating appearance, the grim gryphons are nothing more than lackeys in the monster world.
Appearances[edit]
Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age[edit]
Two grim gryphons will appear as a boss battle within the Kingsbarrow during the first act of the game.
Vicious[edit]
A vicious grim gryphon is faced in the boss battle with the Headless Honcho, along with a Skelegon, a Skeleton swordsman, and a Chasmonaut. In the Nintendo 3DS and the 2D mode of the Definitive Edition, four chasmonauts fight alongside the Headless Honcho instead.
Dragon Quest Rivals[edit]
Grim gryphon appeared in the second true card pack's expansion after the game's name changed to Rivals Ace as a super rare card exclusive for Martial Artist leaders.
