Hendrik's appearance will changed when equipped with the armour, and he will gain the accolade of The Heliodorian. The reason why Hendrik does not join the party with his own personal suit of armour is because he sold it to provide funds to support The Last Bastion during the interim between the first and second acts of the game. This is why it is being sold by merchant brothers instead of in a normal shop.
In the S: Definitive Edition version of the game there is a scenario that takes place in Heliodore castle where in the soul of Jasper will merge with this armour to create the twin eagle armour. This does not replace Sir Hendrik's armour.
